Teacher explodes in classroom

A teacher has run riot in the classroom after having enough of his rowdy students at a high school in the US.

Donald Wood threw around tables and even shattered a window with a chair after losing his temper with his 11th grade algebra class at McGavock High in Tennessee.

A student's mobile phone captures Woods seemingly joking at the beginning of the clip, saying: "Shut up, shut up," smiling as the students laugh and talk noisily with one another.

He crosses his arms waiting for them to quiet down, but when they continue making loud conversation, he begins to lose it.

"If you can shut your mouth and you can listen," he starts, but the students mock him, yelling and imitating his gestures.

He then waves his arms and says, "If you can be absolutely quiet...if you can shut your mouth...you can shut your mouth and you can listen in absolute silence...Do you know why? Cause I have the absolute..."

"Power?" interrupts a student.

"I've got it, and I know it," Wood says. "And guess who else knows it? I've got the power!" he yells, barely audible over the students' squealing.

"Do you know who started the fire? Do you know who started the fire in this school?" he shouts, becoming more and more aggressive. "Me!"

Wood then starts picking up tables and throwing them across the room, as students scream and shriek. He picks up a bin and slams it on the ground, and as he continues to rage, students can be seen getting up and running out of the classroom.

Those in the class at the time say Wood grabbed a chair and threw it at a window, breaking the glass.

Mr Wood has been a teacher for over 15 years, and has taught at McGavock for the last seven.

After his outburst, he walked to the principal's office before being taken to hospital in an ambulance.
