Corrie's 50th anniversary anti-leak measures

They may have held a party to launch Coronation Street's 50th anniversary, but the cast admit they are still in the dark about the explosive storylines that will mark the soap's milestone.

"We know there's a tram crash, but we don't know who's in it, or when it's going to be," said Vicky Entwistle who plays Janice Battersby.

Corrie producers have revealed that along with a major accident which affects the lives of many characters, there will be a birth, a marriage, a fire and at least three deaths over the coming months, plus a special live episode. ITV are also employing new measures in a bid to prevent leaks.

"We don't read the other people's parts. I've never known such secrecy," said William Roache who plays Ken Barlow.

Jane Danson aka Leanne Battersby added: "At the moment we're just getting scripts that involve our own characters."

"We've all been working very long hours into the night. Picking up each script is like picking up a feature film. Every script is a massive chain of events," she said.
