I haven"t been able to retrieve any information on bandleader/trumpet player Jack Stillman, although he recorded a reasonable amount of records during the 20's. I guess we should just enjoy this very fine rendition, even if this musician got lost in total oblivion. This record was made in 1927. A 'bamboola' is both a variety of African drums, a dance performed on the sound of this percussion instrument and a musical work. The bamboola form appeared in a Haitian song of 1757, which gradually evolved to a dance, performed to the syncopated beat of this drum during festivals and ceremonies in Haiti . This dance was brought to the United States by Africans transported to Louisiana. In 1848 , Louisiana, Louis Moreau Gottschalk , born in New Orleans, wrote the very first swing , entitled Bamboula. Since no visual material is available about Jack Stillman, I included some related sheet music and vintage advertisements.
