Sonam Kapoor has revealed her famous father, Anil Kapoor, warned her off becoming an actress.

"You won't have a personal life, you're constantly going to be scrutinised and you'll almost be like public property", the Bollywood star said.

The Slumdog Millionaire actor had his concerns about her entering the world of entertainment, but Sonam was confident and made her debut in 2007.

Now she is back as the leading lady in upcoming Bollywood rom-com Aisha. The story is based on Jane Austen's classic novel Emma and is set in Delhi's upper class.

"High society is very removed from what is actually happening in India because they're a very small section but they're very removed from the poverty and what people are actually going through", she said.

Aisha is out in UK cinemas on Friday.
