Paraguay struck another blow for South America when they drew 0-0 with New Zealand at the World Cup to advance top of Group F.

In an uneventful game in which there was not a single corner in the first hour, Paraguay protected their unbeaten record to become the fourth South American team in the last 16 - after Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

New Zealand finished unbeaten in the group with three successive draws.

At their only previous appearance in the finals in 1982, they had lost all three group matches.
