Wednesday night was hardly a good time to catch the bus as in two unrelated incidents in the city, bus stops were damaged.

The first took place at Subhash road at Vile Parle east where due to ongoing construction work in the area, an adjoining bus stop sunk six feet under at around 8pm. Two people who were standing at the bus stop at the time, moved away in time and escaped unhurt. “It is sheer negligence on the construction site officials and the local municipality’s part,” said Rajesh Teke of the NUSI.

The next incident took place opposite Citylight cinema at Mahim around midnight when the branch of a tree collapsed on a nearby bus stop damaging it. Said an officer from the Mahim police station, “It’s lucky that it’s happened so late because the pavement is frequented by pedestrians and hawkers.” There were no injuries reported.
