A United Express plane with 36 people on board has skidded off the runway at Ottawa's Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, causing minor injuries to two crew members.

An airport spokeswoman said that 33 passengers and three crew were arriving aboard Flight 8050 from Washington DC when the plane skidded off the end of the runway.

The plane was sitting off to the side at the end of the runway while investigators examined it.

Everyone aboard the Brazilian-built Embraer 145 was evacuated.

Canada's Transportation Safety Board is investigating the cause.

"There is no speculation on what happened by anybody on anything," said Paul Benoit, from the Ottawa Airport Authority.

United Express acts as a contracted feeder service for United Airlines' regional customers.
