Thanks to Chipmunk, Tinchy Stryder and the like, American artists no longer have it all their own way in the UK charts. The past two years has seen the rise and rise of British urban music stars. But Chipmunk admits hip-hop's big names from across the pond are still his inspiration.
"My favourite rappers are Kanye West, Eminem, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z," said the 19-year-old.
The Londoner, whose real name is Jahmaal Fyffe, beat Kanye, Jay-Z and Eminem to the best hip-hop trophy at the Mobo Awards last year.
Since unveiling his debut album, I Am Chipmunk, in October 2009, he has scored a number one with Oopsie Daisy and other top ten singles. But the grime star is not ready to put his feet up and watch the royalties roll in.
"Some people think I've made it but I think I've got much more to do," said Chipmunk.
"It's time to just exectue that drive, that passion that I still have in me, through my singles as well as my album tracks," he added.
