My Monday Date - Muggsy Spanier 1954

My Monday Date - Muggsy Spanier All Star Session.
This has been one of my favourite records of Muggsy Spanier. A recording session during a performance in a Chicago nightclub in 1954.
Muggsy had surrounded himself with some of the very best musicians in the style. I mention Earl Fatha Hines on piano, Jimmy Archey trombone, Darnell Howard clarinet, Pops Foster bass and Earl Watkins drums. The first tune “My Monday Date” was written by Earl Hines. He recorded it many times before, firstly with Louis Armstrong’s Hot Five in 1928.
This is fine and easy swinging version witch a special spotlight on high -register clarinet of Darnell Howard.
