Once Upon a Time in Hollywood follows Rick Dalton, a fading television actor struggling to maintain his career in Hollywood in 1969, and his loyal stunt double and best friend, Cliff Booth. Their paths unfold against the backdrop of a changing Hollywood, where fame, ambition, and uncertainty collide.
Meanwhile, rising actress Sharon Tate and her husband, filmmaker Roman Polanski, live nearby as the city becomes increasingly unsettled by the presence of Charles Manson and his followers. 00:00In the late 1960s, the television industry is changing drastically.
00:03His actor Rick Dalton, along with his stunt Double Cliff Booth,
00:06do everything possible to adapt to it and try to stay relevant for as long as possible.
00:10The movie begins with a kind of western television series,
00:12where we are introduced to our two protagonists,
00:14who are none other than Leo DiCaprio and Brad Pitt.
00:17After this, we move to a bar where a guy named Marvin introduces himself to the actors
00:21and asks them several questions about their movies.
00:23So Rick explains a little about what his career was like and the great moments that marked him.
00:27Among these, he highlights the time he set a bunch of Nazis on fire
00:30with a huge flamethrower and his role in a series called Bounty Law.
00:34The point is that Marvin wants to hire him to act in some Italian movies,
00:37but according to him, this man's movies are of a lower level or something like that,
00:40so he thinks they are making fun of him.
00:42On top of that, he feels that he is no longer as well-known as before,
00:45and it affects him so much that he ends up crying like a heartbroken child.
00:49After this, Cliff takes Rick to his house,
00:51where we find out that this man is not so much a stunt Double,
00:54but it is actually a kind of servant, because he not only takes him everywhere,
00:56but also runs his errands and takes care of his family.
00:59Anyway, once Rick arrives, he explains that his neighbor is a well-known director named Roman Polanski,
01:03and he takes the opportunity to complain that he has never offered him a role in any of his movies,
01:07so now he has no choice but to move into Italian cinema.
01:10A little later, Cliff goes to his house, and at that moment,
01:13they show us what life is like for the most famous stuntman in the world.
01:16Although it is not what we expected, because it turns out that he is practically living in poverty,
01:20sleeps in a trailer, has everything completely disorganized,
01:23and survives on canned food of questionable origin.
01:25At the same time, we move on to Rick's luxurious life,
01:28where we see that he lives quite comfortably and takes advantage of his free time
01:32to practice the dialogue for his series.
01:34In the middle of all this, we see Steve McQueen at a party full of other famous actors,
01:37but this scene doesn't add much.
01:39So let's move on to the essentials.
01:41The important thing is that the next day, they go to the studio,
01:43where poor Cliff is told that they will not need him that week.
01:46So our stuntman goes to fix the antenna at Rick's house to pass the time.
01:50But while he is on the roof of the property, he has a flashback to when he was kicked off
01:53the filming set,
01:54and the situation is as follows.
01:56The stunt coordinator did not trust Cliff very much, but he gave him a job anyway,
02:00so he could not disappoint him.
02:01The thing is that a little later, the protagonist starts arguing with the cheap version of Bruce Lee,
02:05and for some reason, he ends up throwing all the punches.
02:08But it was not enough for him to beat up the series star.
02:10In the middle of the fight, he also practically destroyed half the set,
02:13so they cordially invite him to leave the studio and never come back.
02:16Going back to Rick, we see that before starting his performance,
02:19he begins talking about books with a gifted little girl who, who knows where she came from.
02:23But anyway, the point is that instead of talking about a book,
02:26the man tells her about his life, because it turns out that he is no longer as handsome as he
02:30used to be.
02:31All the joints in his body hurt, and on top of feeling increasingly useless,
02:34as expected, he ends up crying again.
02:37Leaving this aside, we move on to Sharon.
02:39This girl went out to buy a gift for her husband, but along the way,
02:42she finds a movie theater, so she goes to find out if they will let her in.
02:45She does all this because she acts in a movie, and at first, they do not really believe her,
02:49but the thing is that no one seems to know her,
02:51so they have to verify that she really is who she says she is,
02:54and after a good while, they let her in.
02:56After this, we move on to Rick's series,
02:58where a guy named Johnny Madrid challenges the negotiator Bob Hilbert
03:01to a kind of gun duel to the death, and before poor Bob can make a move,
03:05Johnny performs an impressive maneuver and gets rid of him as if it were a piece of cake.
03:08Immediately afterward, he enters the bar to chat a little with the protagonist about money-related matters,
03:12but halfway through the scene, Rick forgets his lines because of the effects of alcohol
03:16and practically ruins the entire take.
03:18So now, once he is in the dressing room, he goes completely crazy and starts hitting everything in his path,
03:23and the point is that, more than being angry about his acting problems,
03:26he is angry with himself for being an alcoholic with no self-control,
03:29who does not take care of himself in the slightest.
03:31But now we return to Cliff, who, while driving around the city,
03:35comes across a rather strange hippie girl who asks him for a ride,
03:38and during the trip, she takes the opportunity to try to seduce him.
03:41However, this does not work out very well,
03:43since our protagonist realizes that the girl is underage,
03:46so he prefers to avoid spending a few years in prison.
03:48But we will leave that for later, because Rick continues filming the series,
03:52and to avoid repeating his mistake, he reviews all his lines before starting.
03:56Once on set, we see that in this scene,
03:57our protagonist has kidnapped a little girl,
03:59but he brings a guy named Boston to negotiate,
04:01and the situation now is that Tank threatens him with a gun,
04:04also asking for $50,000, and wanting a little girl to stay alive.
04:08Once the take is over, everyone congratulates the protagonist,
04:10because this time he did things the way he was supposed to,
04:13and the girl takes the opportunity to give him the greatest compliment an actor can receive,
04:16and as always, he starts crying again.
04:19At the same time, Cliff arrives at his destination with his new friend,
04:22and we see that the place is not exactly very nice.
04:24But anyway, the point is that Pussycat introduces him to the entire community,
04:28although for some reason, there is a whole group of hippies watching his every move from a distance.
04:33A little while later, a sort of leader named Tex shows up to meet Cliff,
04:36and makes sure everything is in order, but that's not the important part.
04:39The important thing is that this ranch turns out to be an old film set from one of his movies,
04:43so our protagonist asks for permission to say hello to his old friend George,
04:47but in a way, his request is rejected.
04:49Regardless, the stuntman doesn't care at all,
04:52and heads toward the house, and in that place, he meets the supposed queen of the hippies,
04:55who tells him that George is asleep, so he won't be able to say hello to him at that moment.
04:59But Cliff ignores her anyway, and continues on his way, as if nothing happened.
05:03Next, he goes to George's room and finds him in a deplorable state,
05:06because, among other things, he's practically blind and seems to have Alzheimer's.
05:10In any case, the old man can barely speak, and on top of that,
05:14he doesn't say anything interesting, because our protagonist doesn't stay with him for very long.
05:17The thing is, while he's heading toward his car, the group of hippies starts insulting him as he passes
05:22by, and to make matters worse, he runs into a sort of homeless man who had punctured one of
05:26his car's tires. At that moment, the man forces him to change it, and since Cliff doesn't pay much
05:31attention to him, he ends up teaching him a good lesson. In the middle of all this, a girl from
05:35the
05:35group goes to get texts to put things in order, but she arrives too late, because Cliff left quite a
05:40while ago. After all this, the stuntman picks up Rick, and they go home to watch television,
05:44because apparently one of his shows is airing that night. And now, when the scene in question comes
05:49on, they both analyze the performance and make a few comments. But let's leave that aside,
05:53because what's truly important is that Marvin was watching everything and loved it,
05:56so he orders his team to get in touch with Rick. Anyway, thanks to Marvin, our protagonist spent
06:00six months making movies in Italy, and it seems to have paid off, because Rick is more relevant
06:04than ever. He now has four new movies, plenty of dollars in his pocket, and a new Italian wife,
06:09named Francesca Capucci. Cliff also returned to being a stuntman after a long time,
06:13but this doesn't make much difference, since this man prefers to do nothing with his life.
06:17After those six months, they're back in Hollywood, and Rick tells his friend that he won't be able
06:21to pay his salary anymore. So one chapter comes to an end, and they have no choice but to go
06:25their
06:25separate ways. Regardless, that night they have one last night of drinking to say goodbye,
06:30and obviously, they're going to make the most of it. From this point on, we're told about two nights,
06:34first Sharon's, and then the actor's. So let's start with the girl's night. It turns out that during
06:38that time, she became pregnant, so she's going to move into a residence with her husband.
06:42And because of this, they go out to dinner with some friends, as a sort of last outing in Los
06:46Angeles. So, a little while later, they arrive at a Mexican restaurant where everyone drinks and has
06:51a good time, except Sharon, who leaves because she was feeling a little melancholic due to the
06:55pregnancy and that kind of thing. But anyway, on the other hand, Rick and Cliff also go to a Mexican
07:00restaurant, where they get incredibly drunk, so much so that they return by taxi and leave their
07:04valuable Cadillac park somewhere. When he gets home, Rick keeps making drinks despite being completely
07:09drunk, while Cliff smokes a sort of acid cigarette he had bought from the hippie woman, and he gets
07:13the idea of going for a walk with the dog. At that moment, a car full of hippies arrives in
07:17the
07:17neighborhood, and since the actor isn't entirely sovereign, he comes out yelling at them to go back
07:21where they came from. The guys then move away a little and start coming up with a plan.
07:25Basically, they want revenge on Cliff, so they're going to enter the house armed and finish him off.
07:29In the middle of all this, one of the group asks for the car keys, because she supposedly forgot
07:33something. But in reality, she takes the opportunity to escape and avoid getting into more trouble.
07:38At the same time, Cliff returns home without any problems, although it seems the cigarette had a
07:42very strong effect on him, since he starts eating the dog's food, turns the radio up all the way,
07:46and needs it to be dark so he doesn't go crazy. Next, the hippies enter and threaten our protagonist,
07:52who is so high that he barely notices anything. Regardless, it's pretty obvious that these guys
07:56couldn't kill a fly, because just as they're about to open fire, the dog bites Tex where it hurts the
08:01most,
08:01and an action scene breaks out in which Cliff takes several of them down. But in the middle of all
08:05This, the stuntman gets stabbed in the leg, loses a lot of blood, and ends up completely unconscious.
08:10At the same time, the only girl who's still more or less alive storms out into the yard where Rick
08:14was,
08:15and starts shooting in every direction. Even so, the actor takes care of her by setting her on fire
08:19with the same flamethrower he had used in the movie against the Nazis. But anyway, a little while later,
08:24The paramedics arrive along with police to investigate the whole scene, and they also question our
08:28protagonist to find out what the hell happened. The point is that Cliff has finally woken up,
08:33and now they're about to take him to the hospital. So Rick offers to go with him, but the stuntman
08:36tells him to stay, and look after his wife, because she's much more important than he is.
08:40Right after that, Sharon's husband appears to find out what happened. So Rick explains the whole
08:44situation to him, and also confirms that everyone is fine except the hippies. But I think that's pretty
08:49obvious. Finally, Sharon appears through the security cameras to ask exactly the same questions her
08:53husband already asked, and in the meantime, she takes the opportunity to invite our protagonist
08:57over for a drink, so he can meet his friends as well, which he obviously accepts, because he can't
09:02say no to anything involving drinking alcohol. More interesting videos on screen.
