00:07in the WHO Department of Health Determinance Promotion and...
00:11Last month, a vaccine trial began using their Vibo vaccine, which is approved for Ebola virus, but not for Bundibujo
00:20virus.
00:21Today, WHO expert groups are recommending adding two vaccine candidates to the trial that had been developed specifically for Bundibujo
00:31virus.
00:33Candidates are CHADOX-1, BDBV, developed by the University of Oxford with the Serum Institute of India, and Moderna's mRNA
00:44-1469.
00:45The trial is being led by the DRC's National Institute for Biomedical Research.
00:52We support from national and international partners, including WHO.
01:03We're looking for early results, we hope, in early 2027, so that we can then start to be thinking realistically
01:11about that post-trial access and using these vaccines.
01:15in the countermeasures and really helping to save lives, stop onward infections, and help bring the overall epidemic to an
01:24end.
01:30In Kenya, nine cases of Ebola have been reported, including two deaths, and one case has also been confirmed in
01:37Nigeria.
01:38I commend Kenya and Nigeria for their rapid response to these imported cases and for their transparency in reporting them.
01:48It shows that when countries prepare well, they can manage cases and limit spread.
01:55We call on countries that have imposed travel restrictions to lift them.
02:01Such restrictions punish countries for doing the right thing, create disincentives for transparency, and harm the response.
02:17More than 10,000 cases and 5,000 deaths have now been reported in the DRC.
02:24In some areas, transmission is slowing, but new hotspots continue to emerge.
02:31Displacement, rainy weather, attacks on health care, and difficulties in reaching remote areas are complicating the response.
02:41The DRC is also seeing its worst cholera outbreak in decades, with more than 60,000 cases and 1,800
02:51deaths reported so far this year.
02:55Thank you, Dr. Dougherty, Dr. Dougherty, and then if Dr. Dougherty.
