00:05and one name you'll be hearing quite a lot is Gabungan Parti Sarawak or GPS
00:11But who exactly are they and how did they become the state's ruling coalition?
00:16Well, GPS was formed in June 2018 following the 14th general election
00:21Back then, four Sarawak-based parties decided to leave Barisan National
00:26and form their own state-based coalition to champion Sarawak's rights and interests
00:31So who are the four?
00:33First, there's Parti Pesaka Bumiputra Bersatu or PBB
00:37Next, Sarawak United People's Party, better known as SUPP
00:42The third is Parti Rakyat Sarawak or PRS
00:46And finally, there's the Progressive Democratic Party or PDP
00:50Each of these four parties has built up support across the diverse communities in Sarawak
00:56GPS is led by its chairman, Dhan Sri Abang Johari Okbeng

01:05Under Abang Jo's tenure, the designation of the Sarawak Chief Minister was changed to Premier
01:11And GPS has a formidable electoral record
01:14At the 2021 Sarawak state election, GPS secured 76 out of 82 seats in the state assembly
01:22PBB won 47, SUPP 13, PRS 11 and PDP 5
01:29That's a commanding majority, giving GPS control of the state government
01:34And during the 15th general election, GPS won 23 out of the 31 parliament seats in Sarawak
01:41As Sarawak heads into another state election, analysts have already pointed out
01:46that GPS is on track for another big win
