00:00Now, a word about my film. My dad is 100 years old. My father would have been 120, so this
00:07is a film I made 20 years ago. I was working with surrealist avant-garde filmmaker Guy Maddin, with whom
00:14I've made several films.
00:15And Guy makes film that Chinichita would restore. So one of the things that fascinated me about Guy Maddin is
00:24that his aesthetic as an artist is to have ruined film with scratches and flashes.
00:29And so when I worked with Guy, I thought I wanted to do a film that expressed my emotion about
00:37my father, because so many times I have to give interviews and sometimes I ask questions that I don't know
00:44what to answer.
00:45So I said, okay, I'm going to make a short film and explain what I know about my father and
00:51what I understood.
00:52But I used the aesthetic of Guy Maddin, ruined film, scratches, because this is what happened 20 years ago when
00:58my father's film had not yet been restored.
01:01And they were looking as if they were like spirits that every year after year they would become more and
01:07more ephemeral, and one day they would disappear.
01:10So this is the first film you're seeing as my dad is 100 years old. Thank you so much.
01:17Thank you.
