00:00against Atletico Madrid tomorrow.
00:02So welcome for today for the press conference with Harry Kane.
00:05Hi, Harry.
00:06Hello.
00:07So let's get started with the first question.
00:10I think on the left side, the microphone.
00:12Yes, please.
00:14Mr. Kane, for that all, congratulations for a well-deserved award.
00:18And the second one would be, a few days ago you mentioned that your life completely changed
00:25when you decided to join Bayern Munich.
00:27But I was wondering why.
00:30And the second question would be, would you say the media and the fans in certain way were
00:38unfair with you back in the UK?
00:42Yeah, to the first question, I think obviously moving to Bayern was a big step in my career.
00:47I think it would have been easy for me to just maybe see out my career at a comfortable place
00:52and know I'm always going to play, etc.
00:56But I wanted to push myself, I wanted to improve.
00:58And Bayern Munich changed my life in that sense, both from on the pitch and also off the pitch.
01:05You know, moving to a different country with my family.
01:09You know, the reception we've had, everything has been truly incredible, to be honest.
01:15So, yeah, really, really happy that I made the move.
01:19The second question, I'm not too sure.
01:21You know, I think there's still a lot of people who respected me and appreciate me.
01:26I think the people who know football, who understand football, have always been a fan of mine and the way
01:32I play and the way I approach the game.
01:34Of course, nowadays with social media and fans and etc., you're always going to get a stick from a certain
01:41majority.
01:42You know, when obviously I didn't win a team trophy for a long part of my career and, you know,
01:48some people use that against me.
01:50But like I said, I think the people who really understand football were always understanding of my game.
01:56And, you know, as I've come here to Bayern Munich, if anything, they appreciate it even more.
02:02So, next one is Kerry Howe from Sky Germany in the middle, yeah.
02:05Hello, Harry. Congrats from me as well.
02:08First of all, which kind of game do you expect tomorrow?
02:11And the second question, I remember a scene from the Spurs documentary where you had the face-to-face conversation
02:18with Jose Mourinho,
02:19telling him that he would like to reach the level of Cristiano and Messi.
02:23How did Bayern Munich and the Vincent Kompany help you to reach that level?
02:28Yeah, so tomorrow I expect a tough game.
02:31You know, my first time playing Madrid and, yeah, we know what they bring.
02:37We know how dangerous they can be in attack, on transitions.
02:42We know defensively they can be really solid, really compact, can be tough to break down.
02:47They'll be physical, they'll try and make it tough for us, they'll press us, especially in their stadium.
02:52So, we have to be ready for a really big battle tomorrow night.
02:56But, yeah, in terms of that conversation with Jose, you know, I was at a point in my career where
03:02I felt like I had done a lot of stuff.
03:06I got to a level which I was really happy with, but I knew there was a level that I
03:09could, you know, reach even more.
03:11And, you know, when you're watching clubs like Bayern Munich and then playing in the big games all the time,
03:18winning titles, you know, scoring goals.
03:21I knew if I was in that environment, then, you know, there would be a level to be that nobody
03:26had seen yet.
03:27And, you know, the talk with Jose was more just about reaching my full potential.
03:32I felt like there was stuff that, you know, I could get better at.
03:36And, you know, Jose helped with that.
03:38I felt like from that moment as well, you know, my game turned a little bit and they gave me
03:43a bit more freedom.
03:44And then, obviously, as I come to Bayern Munich and the surroundings were with the team that we had and
03:50at the next level, yeah, I just excelled in that environment.
03:55And you've seen that over the last few years.
03:58Next one on the right side.
04:27You can reach the highest level.
04:32Yeah, no, thank you, first and foremost, and, yeah, thank you to Simeone, you know, one of the best coaches
04:40that's been in our modern era.
04:42So, yeah, to have this compliment from someone like him, obviously, gives me a lot of pride.
04:48I think since the Ballon d'Or has been a great reaction and maybe because my journey is a little
04:54bit different to maybe some of the other Ballon d'Or winners.
04:56And, you know, the hard moments I had to go through, especially early in my career, maybe people didn't expect
05:03me to reach the levels that I have now, but through hard work and determination and resilience, I've been able
05:09to do that.
05:10So, yeah, of course, it'll be a great battle tomorrow night and I'm sure he'll be doing his best to
05:19try and stop me and the team.
05:20But, of course, I appreciate, you know, those kind words from him for sure.
05:24So, next one in the second row from the German Kicker, please.
05:28Yeah, put him through the microphone.
05:32Hi, Harry.
05:33Hi.
05:34It seems like right now there are a lot of extremes at FC Bayern.
05:37A week ago, the celebration in London, then the tough game against Dortmund, missing some players as well again and
05:45obviously the coach still at home.
05:47Can you talk a little bit about how it's like right now for you as well?
05:52Yeah, no, for sure.
05:52It's been a bit of a roller coaster.
05:54You know, we've had emotions on every end.
05:58You know, we've had highs, a big high, obviously, for me personally last week and also the club and the
06:03team.
06:04We've had some lows with obviously the boss and injury and with Josh as well.
06:09And so, yeah, a lot of extremes.
06:12We've had to deal with that.
06:13I think if anything, it's brought us closer together.
06:16It's made us come together more and fight for every moment where we're in a spell where we're missing some
06:23key players, obviously, and we're missing our coach.
06:27But I think it gives everyone an opportunity to prove their self in this team.
06:32You know, we're still early in the season.
06:34I know it feels like we've played loads of games already, but there's a long, long way to go.
06:38So, yeah, at the moment, we're doing well.
06:40You know, even after the game on the week, it was a draw.
06:45And, you know, when you look at the game itself and when you watch the game back on another day,
06:50I think we score four or five goals and I score at least a couple of goals.
06:53So, yeah, sometimes it seems worse than what it is.
06:57I think we're doing more than OK right now.
07:00And, yeah, this week's big.
07:02If we can win these next two games tomorrow night and in the Bundesliga, going into that second international break,
07:08we'll be in a really good place.
07:10And, you know, hopefully after that, we'll have a couple of players to come back.
07:13And from now on to then, we just have to stick together and keep doing what we're doing.
07:18Back to the right side.
07:20Sergei Faustin, OKSport.
07:22Harry, first of all, congratulations with Ballon d'Or.
07:25And as far as I remember, your only game at this stadium was back in 2019, Champions League final.
07:31You weren't fully fit.
07:33Your team lost.
07:35And tomorrow, come back here for the first time since then.
07:39And this season's final is there again.
07:41What does this place mean to you?
07:44Thanks.
07:45Yeah, right now it isn't the best memory in my life, that's for sure.
07:50Yeah, but I'm looking forward to being back here.
07:52And it's an incredible stadium.
07:54And, you know, I've heard the fans tomorrow are going to be at a high, high level.
07:59So I can't wait to experience that as well.
08:02But, yeah, this is the football journey.
08:04Sometimes you have good memories in stadiums, sometimes you don't.
08:09Hopefully we can have a good memory tomorrow.
08:10I play again here next week with England against Spain.
08:14And then hopefully at the end of the year, we're back again for the Champions League final.
08:17So I have a chance and we have a chance to raise that painful memory from 2019 for sure.
08:25And that's what you can do in life in football is just take the next opportunity.
08:28And hopefully tomorrow night we can have a really good night.
08:32Next morning, Vincent Schiepkin, the last row.
08:34Yes, please.
08:34Harry, you just spoke about the physical strength of your opponent.
08:38But how do you see their development in terms of their qualities with the ball, the qualities with how they
08:43play?
08:44And do you think people may still underestimate them a little bit in just talking about their aggressive play style?
08:50Yeah, I think they're a great team.
08:52I think they definitely try and play.
08:54I know maybe because they're so good at defending that they only get maybe tarled with this brush.
09:00But we know they're a really dangerous team in attack as well.
09:02And I think they've proved that over many years now.
09:06They like to play.
09:06They like to play out.
09:07Obviously, I played against and with Romero for a long, long time.
09:12I know how good he is on the ball.
09:14You have Alvarez up front.
09:16You have Llorente.
09:16You have so many great players who can hurt you in attack.
09:20So, yeah, we're definitely not underestimating them as a team.
09:25Yeah, we expect a physical match because that's one of their big strengths.
09:29But also, we need to make sure defensively we get it right.
09:32The press we need to get right.
09:35That's maybe one thing we didn't do so well on the weekend.
09:37I felt we could have done better there.
09:40So, yeah, we're going to have to bring the energy away from home.
09:43You know, when there's a few things against you, that's when it should get the fire in the belly started.
09:48And, yeah, I think a lot of us are looking forward to the challenge tomorrow.
09:53Thanks, Harry.
09:54Juan Castro, Marca.
09:56Some weeks ago, you told me something curious.
09:59It's that you never played against Atletico.
10:02So, apart from tomorrow's game, what are your thoughts on this club?
10:06Thank you very much.
10:08Yeah, very strong club.
10:11Obviously, had a lot of close calls in the Champions League.
10:17Done extremely well in La Liga, considering up against Real Madrid and Barcelona.
10:23I think they've held their own and had some amazing seasons.
10:28So, yeah, I think it's a really great club.
10:31Well-run club.
10:32A lot of consistency, obviously, with their coach as well, being here a long time.
10:37You see in their patterns, both with the ball and without the ball, that they have a clear idea.
10:42I remember talking to Kieran Trippier, who had a very good spell here about how they work and how much
10:49he enjoyed it.
10:50And I felt like, just from a personal point of view, I felt like he improved so much as a
10:54player from when he came here to then seeing it in the national team.
10:57So, yeah, I have a lot of respect for this club.
11:00Like I say, looking forward to the challenge tomorrow, looking forward to playing against the fans.
11:03I've heard their top draw as well.
11:06So, yeah, we'll have to wait and see and see how we cope.
11:11The name is Stefan Kumberger, please.
11:13Hi, Harry.
11:14Very unusual.
11:15You missed two penalties from your last three.
11:19How do you prepare for the next one?
11:22Do you change any details?
11:24No, I still prepare the same.
11:25I think, yeah, sometimes you go through these moments.
11:28You know, I scored, I think when I arrived at Bohan, I scored 20-something in a row or 30
11:33in a row.
11:33And, yeah, obviously missed a couple now in the last few, which isn't ideal, but just shows you that, you
11:41know, why you practice.
11:42And I think when you do something for so long and you do it well, people expect it to be
11:46easy.
11:47And, yeah, I've always tried to say that's not the case.
11:50It takes a lot of practice.
11:51It takes a lot of revision.
11:53And, yeah, you always want to bounce back with obviously scoring the next one.
11:58And if I get one tomorrow night, I would love to be able to put it in the back of
12:02the net.
12:02But that's where you trust your process, you trust your routines.
12:05I'm not someone who panics in these situations and tries to do something crazy or something different.
12:10I know a lot of the time what I do work.
12:12So, yeah, it's been the same routine going into tomorrow.
12:16And if I do get one, hopefully I can score it.
12:19Next one is Julian Bull in the last row.
12:21Give your hand time.
12:22Hi, Harry.
12:23Hi.
12:23Do you already have an idea who will play alongside you in the offensive tomorrow?
12:28And Tim Binder is also in the squad.
12:32Alexander Pavlovich considers him as a twin brother of Tom Bischoff.
12:36What is your opinion on that and what do you think about him?
12:40Yeah, first of all, I have no idea who's going to be planning an attack tomorrow.
12:44And even if I did, I wouldn't say.
12:48Yeah, Binder's been really good.
12:50I don't know if he's the better-looking twin or not between him and Bischoff.
12:54So, it's good competition there.
12:56But, no, he's been really good.
12:58He's settled into the team, trains really well, I think.
13:01Obviously, he had a bit of game time in pre-season.
13:04It was good for him to get on the pitch on Wednesday at the Allianz.
13:08So, yeah, this is the opportunity for sometimes a young player.
13:11You know, you have a few injuries.
13:13That's why you train.
13:14That's why you put yourself in this situation to hopefully take your chance.
13:17Look, he might play some minutes tomorrow.
13:18He might not.
13:19But I think he's given himself the best chance to perform at the best level
13:24because of the way he's trained.
13:25So, yeah, whenever young players are in and around the squad,
13:29I think they're always eager to try and impress.
13:32And so far, he's done really well.
13:35Next one on the right side.
13:36Yes, please.
13:37Here, Harry.
13:37Alejandro Gallego, Cadenaser, from Spain.
13:39I was wondering if you've talked about,
13:42well, you've received messages about how your Ballon d'Or win,
13:45I suppose, like a reivindication personally for you.
13:48I would like to ask you if, considering how you play,
13:51how your play still is,
13:53if your win is also a reivindication for different players,
13:56for different types of strikers,
13:59regarding the ones that used to win the Ballon d'Or in the past times.
14:05Yeah, I think so.
14:07You know, I think especially the way maybe my games evolved over recent years,
14:12there's not many strikers who play like I do
14:16in terms of still producing the numbers that I produce,
14:20but, you know, dropping into midfield, into defence,
14:22and helping out in many different areas.
14:24I've always been someone who's done whatever it takes for the team,
14:28even from a young age.
14:29And, you know, I have a lot of pride in doing that,
14:34and I enjoy doing that.
14:34I enjoy the other parts of the game rather than just scoring goals.
14:38So, yeah, maybe we'll see in the future.
14:42Maybe it will change the perception of the number nine
14:46and maybe give some younger players a different approach
14:49to how they play in that position.
14:52But, yeah, I'm really proud.
14:53I think a bit of a unique style
14:55and a unique winner of the Ballon d'Or in that sense.
14:58So, yeah, that makes me, you know,
15:00really happy that I've been able to do it, doing it my way.
15:03Next one is Nicolas Linner for German Media.
15:06Hi, Harry.
15:07Hi, Harry.
15:08We can't stop asking you about your contract extension.
15:11The last times we talked about that,
15:14you said that only some details were missing.
15:17Can you give us some insights about what are you talking about with the club,
15:22what's still missing,
15:23and is it more a matter of days or weeks?
15:27I'd say it's more days.
15:29There's been good conversations over this weekend,
15:33and today as well.
15:35So, yeah, I know I keep saying we're close,
15:38but we are extremely close now.
15:40And, yeah, details are just details in every contract.
15:43You know, a lot of the bigger stuff has been ironed out
15:47and we're happy with,
15:48but in every contract there's loads of little things that go into it
15:52and small details that, yeah,
15:55in the end the lawyers have to fresh out and figure out.
15:58So, yeah, all in all I'd say it's more days
16:02than weeks.
16:04You know, from what I've heard,
16:06the conversations have gone wet again today,
16:09and hopefully we'll be in a place to, yeah,
16:12do something within the next few days.
16:15Let's have three more.
16:17On the left side, please.
16:18Hi, Harry.
16:18This way, in Spanish, please.
16:35If anyone could trade the Ballon d'Or for the Champions League title, would you do it?
16:41I've always said team trophies are why we play football, and it is why we play.
16:46I think the team aspect of our sport is really, really important.
16:52I have to say the Ballon d'Or last week was one of the best feelings I've ever had in
16:56my life, in my career, without a doubt.
17:00It doesn't take away the fact that it was a really, really special award and a special evening for me
17:05personally.
17:06I just think to have moments with the team, have the celebrations with the team, with the club,
17:11to be able to lift the Champions League with Bayern Munich would be just an incredible feeling.
17:18I think overall, when you look back at your career, of course the Ballon d'Or is a highlight,
17:23and I think it puts me, you know, on an even bigger level.
17:30But yeah, you know, you want to have these big finals, Champions League winning,
17:34having that feeling of emotion with your teammates as well.
17:36So, yeah, I would choose the Champions League, but, you know, I'm in a situation where I have the opportunity
17:44to do both.
17:45So, let's see what happens.
17:47The last two on the right side.
18:01First of all, congratulations.
18:03The question is about, did you have the opportunity after the Ballon d'Or to talk to Kylian Mbappé and
18:14La Minha Mal?
18:15And how do you see the Spanish football and the way they play?
18:18And would you like to play in Spain?
18:20No, I didn't get a chance to talk to Kylian or La Minha, it's pretty chaotic after those events, you
18:28know, everyone just ends up.
18:29It was a long event as it was, and especially after my speech, I think everyone was ready to leave
18:34and go.
18:36So, no, I didn't get a chance to talk to them.
18:40Yeah, and in terms of Spanish football, obviously, it's been a big part, I guess, of me watching football growing
18:46up.
18:48The Spanish national team, how consistent and good they've been with their playing style.
18:53Obviously, they've won the Euros, they've won the World Cup, so you can only respect what they do.
18:59And also with Barcelona and Madrid, you know, growing up watching, you know, Messi and Ronaldo and his battles.
19:06And, yeah, for sure, Spanish football has been at a high, high, high level.
19:12So, in terms of me wanting to play here, I mean, the opportunity never really had the chance.
19:18You know, obviously, I was at Tottenham a long, long time and I was happy there.
19:21And then when this opportunity comes to come to Bayern, it was something I wanted to do straight away.
19:27So, yeah, if the opportunity arose at the right time and it was right for me, then for sure, you
19:33know,
19:33it would have been amazing to play in Spain and play in La Liga and compete against these players.
19:39But ultimately, you know, everyone's journey leads you to a certain place.
19:42And I'm really happy that mine led me to Bayern because, yeah, as you've seen, I've been extremely happy here.
19:49One row in front, yeah.
19:50Hi, Harry.
19:52Hugo Ramirez from Televisa Univision.
19:54It's a two-part question.
19:56The first, I went to Leighton Orient in a couple of months and they say very proud of what you
20:01have done.
20:02You haven't won the Ballon d'Or.
20:03What makes you proud of your decision in August 2023 and what you have accomplished with Bayern as a whole
20:10and the Ballon d'Or?
20:12And the second, I know you have a lot of self-esteem in your game, but what would you say
20:18at the time of your evolution
20:20because we see you dropping on midfield.
20:24We see you have a goal kick that converts into an important goal.
20:29We see you scoring.
20:30What would you say?
20:31It was a time that you said, wow, my game has evolved in a superb way, that I can be
20:39a Ballon d'Or winner.
20:40And congratulations.
20:43Yeah, no, Leighton Orient was amazing for me.
20:45My first professional performance, my first, you know, professional appearance and goal.
20:52And so many good memories there as a 17-year-old learning about men's football and playing in stadiums.
20:57And, yeah, it was a really good learning curve for me.
21:02In terms of making the move to Bayern, I think, as I touched on a little bit earlier, it was
21:06about improving.
21:07Of course, I wanted to win trophies and it was something that I'd been missing in my career.
21:11But ultimately, it was about knowing deep inside that I had another level to reach.
21:15I could, if I put myself in these big situations more and more, it would bring the best out in
21:21me.
21:21And with the players I have around me, it will make me better.
21:24And that's exactly what happened.
21:27So I'm extremely proud to have done that.
21:29And then, yeah, to win the Ballon d'Or here, yeah, obviously speaks of that achievement and speaks of that
21:35decision.
21:38So, yeah, from that sense, yeah, I'm really happy that I made the move back a few years ago.
21:46Can you just repeat the second part of the question?
21:48Yeah, because we see you making crosses, we see you dropping in the midfield.
21:52I remember, I have memorized here the PSG game, the semifinal, your superb game.
21:57Yeah, everything in general.
21:58Yeah, I think, you know, even when I was in the youth team, like under-18 level, I would play
22:04in midfield.
22:04I'd play in different positions.
22:05I think once I got into the Tottenham first team, I was more as a number nine.
22:10You know, Maurizio Pochettino saw me as a nine and scoring goals, making runs in behind.
22:14And, you know, that put me on the next level.
22:18I think probably from when Jose came in, I spoke a little bit earlier about he gave me a lot
22:25of freedom.
22:25And I knew my passing was one of my biggest strengths.
22:29I knew I could take the ball under pressure.
22:31And it had maybe not been seen as much because I was seen as a striker and a number nine.
22:36So from that kind of season, you saw it.
22:39You know, I won the Playmaker Award and the Golden Boot in the Premier League that year with Jose.
22:44And I think that's when people really started to appreciate my game was more than maybe just goals.
22:49And then I think, yeah, since coming to Bayern and especially since Vinny, since company has been here, the way
22:57we play, the style in which we play, you know, gives not just me, but a lot of us a
23:02lot of freedom to kind of drop and drop even deeper, drop into defence and change the game, test the
23:08commitment of the opposition.
23:10So, yeah, since the last couple of years, I think it's allowed me to, you know, I'm at a stage
23:16in my career where I really understand the game and understand my personal performance.
23:21So I kind of dictate that to the other team and how they are.
23:24And, yeah, I think you've just seen me excel in that.
23:27And from my point of view, it's really pleasing to know I can still do that, but still score the
23:33goals that I've scored and break my numbers last season that I've had in my whole career.
23:38So it just shows you there's not one way to play or one way to do something.
23:42You can do it in many different ways.
23:44And the last one, truly on the left side, please.
23:46Hello, Harry.
23:46Elizabeth Conway from BBC Sport.
23:48Firstly, a massive congratulations again on winning the Ballon d'Or.
23:51I wanted to ask you, of all the thousands of messages you must have received to congratulate you, are there
23:57any in particular that left you starstruck?
24:01Oh, good question.
24:06No, I don't know about Starstruck.
24:09You know, I had a lot of people I look up to message me, people like David Beckham, who was
24:14a big idol of mine, Tom Brady, Firat Kohli, you know, a lot of sports people I really admire.
24:22A good friend of mine, Ed Sheeran, who's at the top, obviously, in the music industry.
24:27So I had many, many messages, all of which I was extremely, extremely grateful for.
24:34I think I maybe underestimated, you know, how many people wanted this for me as well.
24:38You know, it's fine wanting it for yourself and you know your friends and your family want it.
24:42But yeah, the outpour from social media and people texting me who didn't even have my number and wanted my
24:49number to reach out.
24:50And yeah, that was really, I guess, overwhelming because it made me realize, you know, it was a really, really
24:57big deal.
24:57And there was a lot of people happy for me.
24:59So yeah, there's some of the, there's some of the names who sent some, some great messages, but of course,
25:04really grateful to everyone.
25:07All right.
25:07Thanks, Harry.
25:08You're right back with the coach.
