Actor Matt Cornett breaks down the emotional weight behind his character Sam's reunion with his first love, Percy. He discusses the iconic line, "You came home," and the flood of unresolved feelings it represents.
Transcript
00:00Matt, I love that Sam's first words to Percy in the book and in the show where you came home.
00:05Yeah, I think something that's so beautiful is Sam, even though he feels like he left and he left this
00:11life behind this thing that it's been 10 years.
00:15I think to a degree, he feels like he's moved on.
00:17But to the depths of his heart, he has never forgotten about Percy and Percy has never gone away.
00:22I think, you know, Percy was his first love, his first real love.
00:25And that will always hold a special place in his heart and inherently in people's hearts in general, I think.
00:30So seeing her come back to this town, it's one of those things that, you know, not only is he
00:36back in this town that is bubbling up all these emotions of when he was a teenager,
00:41that he's trying to kind of like shove away while he's trying to figure out his relationship with Taylor.
00:47Percy coming back, it almost boils over to an extent that he can't fight it.
00:52And he is happy to see her.
00:54Like, he still loves her.
00:55He still cares about her.
00:57He might be in a relationship with somebody else, but he is happy to see her.
01:02And in his head, I think it's an oh, crap moment.
01:06Like, I have to figure out now, like, these feelings that I've shoved down so far are now in front
01:12of my face and I can't fight it.
01:14So I think, yeah, Percy being there, I mean, he says it's bad for him.
01:20And I think it's just because it complicates things so much because he does have so much care for her
01:24still.
01:25you
01:25know,
01:25you
01:25I'll see you next time.
