Nature's Doctors... Oxpeckers 🕊️#animales #viral #facts #fyp

Some birds land on wounded hippos to drink their blood, and the hippo makes no move to shoo them away.

It is not because the animal is unable to do so, but rather because the birds are actually saving its life. Oxpeckers—known as nature's doctors—perch on rhinoceroses, elephants, and giraffes to feed on the lice, ticks, and parasites living on their skin. They also clean open wounds by consuming decaying flesh and accumulated debris, thereby preventing potentially fatal infections.

The process is not perfect; sometimes, while cleaning, they end up opening new wounds. Yet the animals tolerate it, because these birds serve not only as doctors but also as an alarm system.

They possess incredibly sharp eyesight; the moment they spot an approaching predator, they begin to screech—a behavior that is especially useful for animals with poor vision, who might otherwise fail to notice the danger until it is too late.
