In New Orleans, three men shaped by growing up without fathers - including NFL champion Tyrann Mathieu, famously known as the “Honey Badger” - return to their communities to become the mentors they once needed. Their mission is to inspire, uplift, and help build a stronger future for the city that raised them. The documentary beautifully intertwines Mathieu's story with those of local mentees and mentors, exploring the shared experiences of growing up without a father, overcoming adversity, and finding strength through mentorship, resilience, and community. These are stories of loss, but more importantly, stories of hope.

00:00I mean, it's extremely important.
00:02I don't think I'd be half the person I am today if it wasn't for some of the mentors that
00:07sort of came into my life.
00:10Mentors is not, I know for my young kids out there, mentors is not like some old guy that just
00:16tells you all the right answers.
00:18A mentor can come in many different shapes, sizes, forms.
00:21Obviously, sometimes it could be males, but also it could be a female as well.
00:24And so I've had a lot of, you know, male, female mentors, people that sort of take me under their
00:30wing and, you know, show me the ropes of life.
00:34And so definitely forever, you know, indebted to people like that.
00:38My bit of advice I would give to any adult who wants to get into mentorship would be patience and
00:44understanding that all kids don't learn the same.
00:47There's different strokes for different folks and just to be patient.
00:51That's all.
00:51And that's what this film is about.
00:53It's about capturing people like Tyron and people like Cornelius Lucas and Sean.
00:58And they're people that maybe they have a great impact.
01:01Like Tyron literally has a national impact.
01:03But it's those individual conversations that these guys are having with people that are really like making an impact in
01:08their communities and changing people's lives.
01:10He helped me by like really with school because at my old school, I was still doing good, but I
01:16was having some problems.
01:17Like, like with the teacher, not academic wise, but like with the teacher and like he really helped me because
01:23I wasn't really picking the right choice how to deal with it.
01:26And he really helped me like learn how to deal with it and figure it out.
01:31Oh, no, man.
01:32I just started a podcast.
01:33Y'all can check that out.
01:34But, yeah, man.
01:35How's the podcast and, you know, post-retirement and everything like that?
01:39It's kind of growing on me.
01:42I didn't really expect I'd be doing a podcast, but it's been fun.
01:46I do a show with my best friend from high school.
01:48So, yeah, it's been awesome.
