Over-the-top, "funny" priest Philip Murphy does stand-up comedy during his sermons in an attempt to connect with his congregation. He makes fun of his church-goers' confessionals, and ignores any attempt the church administrator Naomi makes to try and reign his antics in. The church threatens an internal investigation if complaints keep coming in, however he just keeps pushing the limit. His actions take a turn for the worse, and he must confront the fact that maybe his actions are a cry for help, a yearning for connection. He gets drunk at a comedy club and people actually laugh at him, but it makes him feel more alone and disconnected than ever and he finally hits rock bottom. Philip and Naomi have a conversation where he admits that he's going to go away for a while to work on himself. She says okay, and the two seem to finally reach an understanding of one another.
