00:00A rise in measles cases in the United States is raising concerns in Europe, where vaccination
00:05rates in certain areas remain below the level needed to stop the virus from spreading.
00:10More than 4,500 cases have been reported in the U.S. this year, around twice last year's
00:15total.
00:16The country is at risk of losing its measles-free status.
00:21Measles can spread before symptoms appear.
00:23People can be infectious for around four days before the rash appears, and international
00:28travel can carry the virus across borders.
00:31In Europe, vaccination coverage is 92% for the first dose and 88% for the second, below
00:38the 95% target recommended to prevent sustained spread.
00:42The Europe Centre for Disease Prevention and Control says national averages can hide communities
00:48where coverage is much lower.
00:51An imported case does not always lead to a wider outbreak.
00:54In Sweden, an outbreak at a festival in July involved 28 cases but did not lead to sustained
01:00spread.
01:02Officials link this to high immunity in the wider population.
01:06Babies too young to be vaccinated and people who cannot be vaccinated for medical reasons
01:10depend on high levels of protection around them.
01:13The ECDC says the risk remains moderate for infants, young children and people with weakened
01:19immune systems.
01:19Be so used to be vaccinated.
01:21…beautiful.
01:21So, if you are to be vaccinated, you are hitting the elements of the area to get vaccinated.
01:22That happens when you are vaccinated and can be vaccinated.
01:22It will be a good state of your health, mental health and health, but with fire and health
01:23you are out there to be treated as good.
01:23So, I think that you are vaccinated and you will need to be vaccinated.
01:23The ECDC says, you will need to be vaccinated and you're a good state of your experience.
01:23Let's see.
