00:00I'm Emma Madison. As you guys know, I'm a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach.
00:04And on this channel, I review holistic health, fitness, sleep, and wellness tools from a
00:09practical evidence-based perspective. Today, I'm reviewing the Pulsetto, which is a wearable
00:15non-invasive cervical or neck vagus nerve stimulation device. That's a mouthful.
00:25Most importantly, Pulsetto gifted this to me for my husband and me to test. They knew about my
00:31husband's sleep issues, and I also wanted to test it for my own stress, pain, sleep, and inflammation
00:36difficulties. All right, so let's get into us using this device. Now, when you get the device,
00:42you do have to download an app. But I wanted to start with the free plan because I wanted to
00:46know
00:46if someone buys this device but does not immediately pay for some premium app subscription,
00:52is the free version of the app enough to actually get value? And my short answer is yes. On the
00:59free
00:59version, I have access to sleep, stress, anxiety, pain, and burnout programs. For me, the ones I used
01:06most often were pain, stress, and sleep. I occasionally used anxiety, but those first three were the ones I
01:12kept going back to. And that matters to me because I don't like when you get a wellness device and
01:17it
01:17only becomes useful after you have to subscribe to something extremely expensive or even
01:22anything in general just to use the dang thing. And in this case, I felt like the free app experience
01:27was enough to use the device meaningfully. And on that note, that is one of the only complaints I
01:32could find out about users towards Pulseto. I browsed Reddit and I found that pretty much the only beef
01:40people had with it was that they were pissed when they were charged for the premium access after their
01:45trial expired. So just close out of the free trial if you don't want to have to pay premium after
01:51a
01:51trial is over. I've forgotten those things too and accidentally gotten charged as well. I know we all
01:57do it. But just know you can skip the free trial. Just close out of it. Okay, let's talk about
02:01what it
02:01feels like. This is not a spa treatment. The first time you put it on, it can feel weird, almost
02:08like a
02:09shop collar because I know we've all put one of those on. Not. But you can imagine having electricity
02:16running through your neck, how that would feel. And I know that sounds a little dramatic, but I want to
02:21be honest, you are getting electrical stimulation on your neck. So you feel it. Your neck muscles can
02:29activate. You may feel tingling, pulsing, or a strange contracting sensation that makes your neck feel
02:36rigid. But most importantly, you're not supposed to put these things on your neck muscles. I
02:42mentioned earlier, remember, it's on your pulse. I personally have to share that I hated electrical
02:48stimulation. I still don't like using TENS units. I don't like when acupuncture noodles are connected to
02:54little electrodes and they stimulate across your muscles. It's just not a sensation that I normally enjoy.
03:00So I expected to hate this. I really did. But for some reason, I'd put it on. I'd feel it.
03:08I kept
03:08wanting to use it again. And even during the day working at the computer. And that was probably one
03:14of the most interesting parts for me. Even though I don't love the feeling of electrical stimulation,
03:21I kept coming back for it because I unconsciously liked how it felt afterward. I think my body ended up
03:30wanting it. For intensity, I usually used it around a level five. Based on my personal research and user
03:37experiences I looked at, that seems to be a helpful range so that way you get the most noticeable
03:43results. Anything around a four through six intensity is strong enough so that you can feel it, but it's
03:49not painful. You can absolutely start lower in intensity if you need to. Don't crank it up to prove
03:55a point. The goal is not pain. The goal is noticeable, but tolerable stimulation. One mild con
04:01is that you do need this for its work. This gel is not optional. I tried to put it on
04:07without the gel
04:08and did not feel anything. And then I put the gel on and I really felt something. And on that
04:13note,
04:14a practical tip, put the gel on the electrodes first before turning the device on. Otherwise,
04:20you're going to zap your poor little sensitive fingers. And that is not my favorite way to start
04:25some type of relaxation session. More minor complaints. Woe is me. The gel is sticky, but it
04:30helps the stimulation conduct properly. So afterward, I wipe it off with a paper towel. Sometimes I also
04:36use an alcohol wipe, but that's just me. And to be clear, the gel comes off completely fine and it
04:41never caused any weird acne or breakouts for me. And I'm prone to that. So it was all that. Now,
04:46what you
04:46might've expected is that you get sore from using it, but I personally did not have any neck soreness,
04:52throat soreness, or any irritation from using it daily. My neck muscles did activate somewhat during
04:58use, but I didn't feel sore afterward. Now, one more reminder, because this is so important. The
05:03device is supposed to go right where you feel your actual pulse. And don't worry, the app will walk you
05:10through proper placement. I'm just good with that. All right. My first three days, I think I overused it.
05:15Uh, I was a little too excited. I had no overuse issues. I just thought to myself, wow, you probably
05:22should not be wearing this almost all day. What if you had adverse effects? So the very first day I
05:29used it, I stepped on the scale and I was like, wow, I dropped 2.8 pounds overnight, which for
05:35me
05:36was very likely all water retention and inflammation. And so I want to be extremely clear when I say this,
05:42I'm not saying this device causes fat loss. That is not what I mean. For my body, stress and
05:48inflammation can show up as water retention. So when I saw that change overnight, I interpreted it
05:54as my body possibly releasing some stress related tension. And that was very interesting to me,
05:59especially there was 2.8 pounds, but it's not a weight loss claim. After that happened, I did back
06:05off more with it and just focused more consistently on using it for sleep right before bed. With the sleep
06:11program, I personally noticed that after about two to three sessions, I felt like I slept deeper.
06:17My dreams felt more vivid. And one of the biggest things I noticed was that there were less of those
06:23small things that shocked me awake feeling. The first few nights when I realized the feeling,
06:28it was almost like sleeping like a kid again. It was this peaceful, deep feeling to it.
06:34It was good. And that was probably my personal favorite benefit. I also ended up using the pain
06:41and stress programs a lot. And for the ladies out there, I had some bad cramping normally. But when I
06:50wore the pain session, I was amazed that it helped my cramping. And I was able to do way more
06:58high energy
07:00work that I needed to do that required a lot of me. And I did not feel like I was
07:06on my period.
07:07It was really cool. So the pain session was really helpful for me as well.
07:11My husband's experience is the part that surprised me and him the most. As you guys may know,
07:17he has had sleep issues. And that was part of why Polsato was interested in testing this device or
07:22having us test this device. We've been using it for about four weeks. And I want to keep watching the
07:28data because I don't want to overstate anything too early. But about two to three weeks in of
07:33consistent use, he started noticing more consistent sleep overall. And the thing that really caught our
07:38attention was his deep sleep. For him, if you guys have been following the channel, deep sleep showing
07:44up more consistently is a big deal considering he has had like zero minutes of deep sleep for
07:49outs of three to six months at a time. And then maybe one to two minutes and then nothing again
07:55for a
07:55really long time. But as you can see from this Muse data, deep sleep suddenly started showing up.
08:03And then he had his longest bout of deep sleep ever recorded with Muse June 14th after consistently
08:09using Polsato since the end of May. As always, we are not claiming this fixed everything. We are not
08:16saying every night was perfect. But compared to what we were seeing before, it's encouraging.
08:23It's encouraging enough that we are absolutely going to continue to use it. And that is where
08:29the joke comes in. I thought this thing was going to be garbage, yet we're fighting over it at night.
08:36So then later, Polsato ended up giving me premium access, premium subscriptions, so I could test out
08:44more programs. And that opened up additional programs including digestive support, inflammation,
08:50and also stress resilience. You can also link a lot of wearables to see direct impact on sleep within
08:57the app and also your heart rate variability or other health metrics to see in your app how those
09:03improve or change with usage. Now, I'm still testing those features in the premium subscription,
09:08so I don't want to give a final verdict on every premium program yet. But I can say that I
09:15am already
09:15happy with the free programs before I was happy with the premium access. So I will also say this,
09:22heart rate variability is one of the metrics a lot of users utilize to see how their stress and
09:28recovery readings and overall heart health improve after using Polsato. Some users do notice drastic
09:35improvements in a couple weeks of using it. And if you're looking for a good app to track your heart
09:39rate variability, you just need a good wearable, I recommend chest strap, EKG-based chest strap heart
09:45rate monitors. But you can use elite heart rate variability. I do like them. So let's have a quick
09:50summary now of what I liked versus what I didn't like. What I liked. First, it is easy to use
09:55once you
09:56understand the gel and the placement on your neck. Second, the sessions are short enough to fit into a
10:02night routine. And I'm actually sticking to it, which is great. Third, the free app has meaningful
10:08programs. It's not garbage. Fourth, I liked that I could feel an effect without feeling drugged or
10:13groggy. And finally, I liked that it is not just a random piece of wellness junk that turns into a
10:20paperweight. What I didn't love. The sensation will not be for everyone. If you hate electrical
10:28stimulation, you may need a few sessions to get used to it at a much lower intensity. The gel is
10:34sticky,
10:34not a huge deal. It's part of the process. It easily wipes off. As with all things, you need to
10:40be consistent. That's really hard for some people. And I would not judge this from one random session
10:46while scrolling around on your phone and doing 10 other things. You actually have to commit to this
10:50to do it. It's also very important that viewers out there do not treat this like a cure-all.
10:55Vagus nerve stimulation is not a replacement for medical care. It's not a replacement for sleep,
11:01hygiene, good nutrition, stress management techniques, therapy, or appropriate treatment
11:07for sleep disorders. If you have medical conditions, implanted devices, heart rhythm concerns, seizure
11:15history. If you're pregnant or have any concern about using electrical stimulation near the neck,
11:22you need to check with a qualified medical professional and follow the manufacturer's safety
11:27guidance, please. Now, if you're watching this, what makes this right for you? I think this is
11:32most interesting for people who feel like their nervous system is stuck on. People who are stressed,
11:38tense, reactive, inflamed, wired at night, struggling to downshift before sleep. This is going to be good
11:44for you. I also think it may be interesting for people who like measurable wellness tools and people
11:50who do track their sleep. People who are open to nervous system regulation practices, but maybe want
11:56something more direct than another meditation app. For my audience specifically, especially adults 40
12:02and up and menopausal women, I think this is a category worth paying attention to because stress,
12:08sleep, inflammation, and recovery become even more important with chronological age. But please make
12:15sure you keep your expectations in check. And also, one last thing I wanted to mention about it is that
12:20some users do report preferences for the different programs, for example, stress versus sleep versus
12:26pain. And that's because these programs don't just have different names, they're actually different
12:31frequencies that they're using, and they're not all the same. So you may end up developing a preference.
12:36So overall, I think after four weeks of using this, I think it's pretty impressive. I expected to be
12:42skeptical, expected to hate it, and hate the sensation. And yet, it's been used every single
12:50day. And it can be really hard to commit to using things like this. I've used it every single day,
12:57multiple times a day, and so has my husband. It's been a problem making sure that both of us are
13:03going, hey, did you use it yet? Okay, well, make sure you use it because I want to use it
13:07now. Okay,
13:07I'm going to use it. So yeah, it's really easy to get hooked on to. And most importantly, we're
13:14personally noticing benefits. Now, that's just anecdotal evidence. But the anecdotal experience
13:20of us is that I noticed help with stress, pain, sleep, felt like I slept deeper, my husband noticed
13:27more consistent sleep, and hallelujah, deep sleep has appeared. We hope it continues. So that's it for
13:34this video. We're going to continue using it. We're going to continue trying out the premium
13:39subscription. And we're also going to test out for a future video, what happens to our brain after we
13:47use this because we have a lot of really cool tech that we can see brain scans with mind lift.
13:53And
13:53we're going to check that out. If you're interested in trying out the pulsetto, I've got a link in the
13:56description. If you use my link, you may not only get a discount, but you may actually help support
14:01our channel if you choose to do so at no extra cost for you. All right, that's it for this
