00:04It's an institute that values both scientific research but also arts and culture.
00:10If we have an image, we send it to an AI, we ask it to recreate it.
00:15Will it create the exact same image?
00:17We go beyond the basic academic research and try to connect with industry
00:21and help develop the ecosystem of research and innovation.
00:24This can be used in any kind of occupation, activities, rehabilitation.
00:31In the past, this space was an obsolete market of food.
00:35Today it is a regional center dedicated to the immersive technologies.
00:42A metamorphosis in constant evolution, in Europe.
00:59In the capital of Chipre, there is a center of excellence,
01:02a company that is specialized in interactive systems, intelligent technologies and emergent technologies.
01:07Funded parcialmente by the European Union,
01:10it has 110 employees, in its majority investigators, developers and técnicos.
01:14Integrated in multidisciplinary groups,
01:18enterprises emergentes and derivatives, afiliated.
01:21They work in more than 50 projects of research,
01:25principalmente europeos,
01:27but also locales, nationales and financed by the industry.
01:32This equipment uses artificial intelligence and technologies of reality,
01:36augmented and virtual reality,
01:37to create, desde mapas urbanos interactivos,
01:40with data in time real,
01:42about traffic, noise, environment or contamination,
01:46a reproducciones de monumentos históricos,
01:49cuyo acceso es restringido.
01:52Visual reality is one of those technologies
01:55that can enable different modes of interaction with visual elements.
01:59So, one of the things that can enable you
02:01is to be immersed in an environment
02:03that maybe it's difficult for you to go,
02:05either because that's in a different country
02:07or maybe you have mobility issues.
02:09Being immersed in that environment
02:11allows you to feel like,
02:13yes, I'm there.
02:18The same team also develops
02:20innovative technologies
02:21that allow interactive experiences.
02:24This, for example,
02:25allows children to create their own scenes
02:28with actors avatars in a theater museum.
02:31You can basically give the actors in the scene
02:34different emotional temperaments,
02:36different actions that they can do
02:37and effectively create your own play.
02:38There's also the stage designer table,
02:41where functionally you place
02:42the different objects in the space,
02:44you tell the actors where they need to go,
02:46you put spotlights where they need to be
02:48and then I can also change the actions
02:50that they're currently doing.
02:51So at the moment, for example,
02:53we've made him talk.
02:54So now that I've removed it from the screen,
02:55he will no longer speak.
03:13We have developed our own hardware
03:15in order to replace the commercially available system
03:18with something which is cheaper,
03:20easy to install and fast,
03:22so it can be easy for consumers to use this either at home,
03:26or their jobs in order to enhance performance
03:29and for rehabilitation reasons as well.
03:42The main application of the technology is for the athlete to have a real time feedback when they are running,
03:56indoors or outdoors without having a coach with them,
03:59or to analyze the data afterwards alone or with a coach or with a clinician.
04:09The center was founded with the goal of becoming a regional pool of transference of technology and knowledge.
04:17According to his executive director,
04:19it is a key tool to combat the failure of the brain cells in Chipre,
04:23a small state member of the European Union,
04:25with engineers, researchers and students highly qualified.
04:29The only way to help the economy and move a little bit beyond tourism,
04:40which was the main economic driving force all these years,
04:44is to keep this critical mass of talent and build it and expand it in order to create an economic
04:53activity which relates to technology.
04:57This researcher, for example, works to help farmers to increase their feelings
05:03through virtual reality applications based on artificial intelligence.
05:09The farmers were really open to the idea of using AI, XR, robots,
05:16but they didn't know such technology was available to them.
05:20Other researchers are developing solutions to help the cities to cartograph,
05:26identify, quantify, protect and gestionate better their trees and urban green spaces.
05:33We wanted to provide more time to the municipal staff for creative work.
05:38It's easier for them to know where they need to go and trim the trees geographically,
05:45where they should plant trees, and also because we combine this platform with other projects
05:51that relate to the urban heat island effect, so the rising of temperatures,
05:56now the municipality will be able to deduct the temperatures in the city.
06:11We are between Europe, Asia and Africa, and this is very attractive to come.
06:18The presence of science in Nicosia brings together top class academics, top class research,
06:25in order to create research that will be used in the sphere of innovation,
06:33but also to create applicable solutions.
06:38Soluciones ya utilizadas por servicios municipales,
06:41como esta plataforma, que ayuda a localizar y notificar vertederos ilegales,
06:45incluso diminutos, por toda la ciudad.
06:48This area is 50 square kilometers,
06:51and we have identified through our technology 98 incidents.
06:56Each color indicates a different type of waste.
06:59You can also see a hotspot where most of the waste is located.
07:05The center also affirms to be a pool of attraction for artistic creation.
07:10In a recent exhibition, for example, this artist made visible the invisible data mobile.
07:18While this duo reflected on the creative visual power of artificial intelligence,
07:23asking him to generate his own images without human intervention.
07:27We all have the feeling that AI images have their own aesthetic quality to them.
07:32What luck and save is that machines only interact with themselves,
07:35and there is no more input human.
07:37And we can sit here,
07:38it's very one-day pictures of nature, advertising and competition.
07:44The last festival, co-organized by the center,
07:47reunió the proposals of 60 artists from 15 countries.
07:50Anything with the amount of images,
07:53What numdasitares?
07:53All these books have now been mulled!
07:58Nice and wonderful things!
07:59And many of them have added!
08:00You met this song because of the few things.
