My mother, originally from Villa de Tezontepec, Hidalgo, has told me about a terrifying experience from the first days of my life. After putting me to sleep beside her, she suddenly began hearing me crying—yet she couldn’t move to check on me. When she finally regained control, she opened her eyes to find a shadowy woman in what looked like a suit, with very long hair, standing near me as if holding me. The moment she tried to curse the presence, her own mother entered the room and the figure vanished, leaving me on the floor. Before all of this, my mother had been having disturbing dreams where someone kept taking me farther away from her. Even now, when I visit Hidalgo, I feel like something is watching—an eerie, creepy sensation I can’t explain, and I often wonder if it’s connected to the fact that I hadn’t been baptized yet.
