00:06Well, welcome to the Slasher.
00:08I make videos about movies and TV series, if you like them, subscribe.
00:11Halloween, Friday the 13th, Scream.
00:13Today, we recognize these codes immediately.
00:16But contrary to what one might think, Halloween did not invent the Slasher film.
00:19Before Michael Myers, there was already Psycho in 1960 and Black Christmas in 1974.
00:25which introduces several elements that will later be found in the genre.
00:29But in 1978, John Carpenter and Debra Hill released Halloween.
00:33And at that point, the formula became so effective that it would influence decades of horror cinema.
00:39An almost impossible-to-stop killer, isolated young people, a series of murders,
00:44a camera that sometimes gives us the impression that we are the ones observing the victims, and especially Laurie.
00:48Because in a lot of slasher films, someone is left at the end, very often a young woman.
00:54and we will eventually give a name to this archetype, the Final Girl.
00:58And the genre is going to explode.
00:59Jason from Friday the 13th, Freddy Krueger with A Nightmare on Elm Street
01:03And by repeatedly reproducing the same mechanisms, the public eventually becomes familiar with them.
01:07You know that separating from the group is a bad idea.
01:09You know that you absolutely shouldn't go and investigate a strange noise.
01:12And you know that when the killer appears dead, he probably and definitely isn't.
01:17And that's what Scream would take up again in 1996.
01:20Scream is going to do something amazing.
01:22He will create characters who have seen the same horror movies as us.
01:25who know the rules and who, knowing the rules, will not apply them.
01:29But since the killer also knows the rules,
01:31Well, the film will be played with all of that.
