In the eclectic world of Venice Beach, three artists searching for purpose find their lives unexpectedly intertwined.
Transcript
00:01They say they've started with a dream, Venice of America, a playground of culture, inspired
00:09by the canals, romance, and the wonder of Venice, Italy.
00:15Kinney reinvented the edge of Los Angeles as a dream of spectacle and possibility.
00:22They all find their way into the story, and somewhere along the way, you end up part of
00:28it.
00:28Anyway, this is Evan, he's an artist, living out of a shop and barely hanging on.
00:37This is Jacques, he's a photographer, here on assignment from France, bit of a know-it-all,
00:44you know the type.
00:46This is Sue, she just arrived from South Korea, doesn't speak much English, classically trained
00:53violinist, but she seems to like busking.
00:57I see now why you've been pushing me to the stage.
00:59No, never.
01:00I just want you to have your place.
01:03My place?
01:04Another thing about Sue, she has this curiosity about trash, pollution, and ocean preservation.
01:15The question is, how could she connect these issues with the arts?
01:20At some point, it stops feeling like clean-up and starts feeling like memory.
01:25We stopped looking at it like it was waste and started seeing materials still waiting for
01:31a second life.
01:31The city keeps shedding things, plastic, cardboard, old tapes, old stories.
01:39We just found a way to keep them moving.
01:41Venice endures as a living mosaic, perfect, ever-changing.
01:48We're all just passing through.
01:49I spend most of my nights drinking apple pie moonshine, barefoot in the dirt, and out howling
01:58at the moon.
02:00Don't believe the pretty lies you tell, don't even waste your breath.
02:04Yeah, I've seen this part before, and I remember how it ends.
02:10Wild eyes and alibis, that's just the way it is.
02:15Well, the fastest way to a man's heart is to stab him in the ribs.
02:20Trailer Park Queen sat on her double-wide throne, yeah.
