00:00We reveal the roots of anti-Italian sentiment.
00:03Hold on tight for a history lesson.
00:05Anti-Italianism, or anti-Italian sentiment,
00:08it is a form of ethnic discrimination against Italians.
00:11But why did it spread, especially in the United States,
00:15in Canada and some parts of Europe?
00:17It all began in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
00:22Italian immigrants poured into these regions
00:25looking for better opportunities.
00:27But their arrival was not always well received.
00:31Economic competition, cultural differences
00:33and sometimes even envy generated resentment.
00:37Italians were often labeled as criminals
00:40or unreliable people.
00:41Remember the infamous Sacco and Banzetti trial in the 1920s?
00:46Two Italian immigrants were controversially convicted of murder,
00:50further fueling anti-Italian sentiment.
00:53War and nationalism also played a role.
00:56During World War II,
00:58Italy initially allied itself with Nazi Germany,
01:01which did not help his reputation in countries like the United States and the United Kingdom.
01:06Despite these challenges, Italian culture has profoundly influenced the world.
01:10Just think about art, cooking, fashion.
01:13In short, to everything the world loves about Made in Italy.
01:17Overcoming prejudices, Italians have made extraordinary contributions to the world.
01:22So, the next time you enjoy a pizza, or admire a masterpiece by Leonardo da Vinci,
01:27remember the struggles behind those triumphs.
