00:00Two cars, both doing 56 km an hour, and in a moment.
00:08Well, you'll see.
00:10But to understand how we got here, let's go back to the beginning.
00:13Because this moment needs a little context.
00:16This is us staging the world's first high-speed intersection crash test
00:21with two moving full-scale vehicles.
00:24Why?
00:25Well, no regulation or safety standard rating asks for it.
00:28But then again, real crashes, as it turns out, don't read test scripts.
00:34Our setup comes from real accident research,
00:38an intersection crash with both cars traveling at 56 km an hour.
00:42This speed represents a very severe intersection collision
00:46at the upper end of the speed range,
00:48typically seen in real-world junction accidents.
00:51Under normal circumstances, the CLA's active safety systems
00:55can help prevent this kind of crash or mitigate its severity.
00:58A combustion engine CLA shooting brake hits an all-electric CLA squarely on the driver's side.
01:0690 degrees, over two tons each.
01:10Around 15,000 crash simulations and some 150 real car crash tests
01:15go into the development of a new model.
01:18That's where these eight dummies come in.
01:21Four adults, four children, and up to 150 measurement points each.
01:26All to answer one very human question.
01:29How can we best protect human lives in the event of an accident?
01:38So, data ready, cameras rolling.
01:42Let's pick up where we left off.
01:44You're the only one that's going to be a loss of their ages.
01:49What do you think?
02:07That's where we left.
02:35Wie?
02:36Well, the Crumple Zones absorbed the energy, while Seatbelts, Tensioners, and Airbags worked together.
02:44And the Electric CLA's battery cells?
02:46They remained fully protected within their dedicated survival space.
02:51And protection didn't stop at impact.
02:53The high-voltage battery has been automatically shut down and disconnected from the drivetrain.
02:59The Shooting Brake's fuel system also shut down.
03:02Doors were unlocked.
03:03Windows opened partly.
03:05And an automatic emergency call summoned help.
03:08We don't develop our vehicles for crash tests.
03:12We develop them for the crashes that happen outside the laboratory.
03:17Because accidents don't follow a script.
03:35We develop them for the crash trainings.
03:37Withindo notifiedOM, it will run for the crash test.
03:43We wait to see all the passengers.
