Have you ever wondered why we don't use solid rubber tires instead of dealing with inflatable ones that go flat? After all, solid tires would never lose air, and a puncture from a nail wouldn't be an issue since there's no air to escape. The problem is that engineers have tested these tires hundreds of times, and they always turn out to be a total disaster; for starters, they offer terrible shock absorption, meaning you feel even the slightest bump. Plus, such a tire would weigh three to four times more than a standard one, leading to significantly higher fuel consumption.
But the worst part is overheating, as solid rubber tires would literally melt or catch fire while in motion. Finally, there's the issue of the road itself: these tires would destroy the pavement in a matter of weeks, creating even more potholes.
