00:12You know, I've got my brothers. He needs absolutely what he's done, you know?
00:51What took place on Monday was an horrendous incident and it's, as you know, caused Helen
00:58significant injuries. As a result of that, Helen's left leg was amputated on Monday.
01:07We had been hoping that her right leg would be saved, but as of this afternoon this morning,
01:13the surgeons had to also remove her right leg.
01:16But the good news in all this is Helen is alive and she's stable.
01:21That is the most important thing for our family.
01:23And I think when we reflect and talk about and think about Helen, the two most important parts of Helen,
01:29for us as a family, are her heart and her mind.
01:34We are grateful and thankful that at this stage both her heart and her mind are in good shape.
01:41Now, this violent attack on a much loved and respected sitting member of our Federal Parliament must be a moment
01:49for us to pause and to choose to be better.
01:53In fact, it is bittersweet and quite difficult to talk about that I was discussing this very topic with Helen
01:59just two weeks ago in Euroa,
02:02when we were both visiting a recovery hub dealing with the bushfire recovery.
02:06And we talked about the need for greater civility and engagement across our civic and public life.
02:13And I hope that as Australians we can now reflect thoughtfully on what has happened
02:17and can recommit all ourselves to the care, kindness and respect that I know are so deeply embedded in the
02:26Australian character.
02:26It says that the political climate is becoming more and more polarizing today, which is a shame.
02:35And it's very concerning if things like this is happening in our community.
02:38As I just mentioned, no one deserves to be put at risk of anything, especially someone that's serving the people
02:46and trying to do what's best for this young community.
02:49Yeah, that makes me worry because I do have a daughter and I would like her to grow up in
02:54the in the safer environment.
02:57Yeah, but also compared to compared to the rest of the world and compared to some places, we are very
03:05safe in here.
03:06And thanks for the police and the community for making it so.
03:11It has saddened me that we have that people have taken action that includes violence.
03:18It's not enough that they would go and talk to this person, which is very open to to be speaking
03:24with people.
03:26They've taken it into their own hands for some obscure reason that saddens me terribly.
03:32It's very close to home now.
03:48In the corner of the world.
03:48Thanks for being here, too.
03:50.
