00:13It is important because this is a plant that deserves a significant investment, an investment
00:24and 50 million, it was in the PNRR projects, therefore with a contribution that is almost 20% of funds
00:32of PNRR and is also a model.
00:37A plant like this is strategic, our strategy is clear, that of transforming
00:42waste in resources, materials, and energy. We have chosen to invest in quality and expansion.
00:54of the wallet, we add the soft plastics that we already deal with, the rigid ones, because
00:59The rigid ones? Because there's a huge gap in Europe, and therefore also in Italy, regarding rigid ones.
01:05Rigid, why? Because it comes from the name rigide, from the type of rigid plastics treated,
01:15R3 represent the three Rs of the circular economy model, recovery, recycling and regeneration,
01:23an investment of nearly 50 million that will employ 80 people once fully operational. This is the result
01:30of work done with institutions, with the academic world, with technological partners and
01:38especially with the people of ERA who with their professionalism, passion and perseverance
01:43They have allowed us to create this technological jewel that all of Europe envies us.
01:50In recent years, Emilia Romagna, even with many sacrifices on the part of its citizens, has become
01:56first region in Italy for separate waste collection, but today in Italy the capacity for reuse is the lowest
02:02of the matter is less than the matter that is recycled and this sometimes leads to the paradox
02:07that a portion of the separated plastic is returned to incineration. This is one thing
02:12intolerable, unacceptable, citizens are rightly outraged by this prospect,
02:17but the only alternative is on the one hand to create plants like this one, very innovative, which
02:22are able to give new life to the matter and then also have fiscal policies, let's say
02:27also of constraint on the use of recycled plastic because we need to close the cycle,
02:31we cannot think of differentiating, of doing a whole selection process and then
02:36in order not to have a market that this plastic is going to put back into the market and today it was from a
02:40a good lesson for the country too.
02:41What are the unique features of this system? First of all, it's a technologically advanced system.
02:47which aims to treat 30,000 tons of rigid plastics, in particular
02:52polypropylene and high-density polyethylene. Rigid plastics come from packaging,
02:57from cosmetics, automotive, and consumer electronics. This material has the objective
03:02Once it has entered our factory and is treated it must necessarily return
03:07to these sectors which are the most demanding sectors. When someone designs a car,
03:13he designs a bottle, he chooses recycled material, he doesn't do it because he has to do it and that's it, he has to do it
03:19because it works and we are here to demonstrate that quality recycling works.
03:24It's a first step, it's an important step that shows that we can continue to invest.
03:37and multiply these plants not only in Italy but also in other countries. The sector
03:43has demonstrated that it can invest and can invest in producing high quality plastic for
03:49reproduce high-quality packaging. The problem we have for now is that there are
03:55many imports that arrive at rock-bottom prices without any traceability and therefore
04:04European recyclers are suffering greatly from this very difficult market situation.
04:09For us, of course, as L'Oreal, the recycled plastic objective is not new, we have
04:14placed packaging at the heart of our sustainability strategy with L'Oreal for the Future
04:19which is the strategy for 2030, so obviously before the PPWR, the Plastic Tax, we have
04:25set two clear objectives on the topic of recycled plastic. The first is to reduce
04:2950% virgin plastic by 2030 compared to 2019 and the second is to procure it
04:37biobased materials or materials from 50% recycled sources on all our packaging. The path is clearly
04:43important and ambitious but we are going in the right direction. Obviously we will have to be
04:48increasingly ambitious and have partners like Aliplast and innovators who support us
04:55allow us to draw on renewable and therefore recyclable sources of material, which will allow us
05:01increasingly to concretely respond to what is precisely the objective of L'Oreal for the Future
05:06and the PPWR.
05:08Today, thanks to Aliplast, 100% of our PET is mechanically recycled.
05:18We are now working on the PE and PP parts. This system is working for now.
05:25very good, it is not Foodgrade certified yet, it will be in 5-6 years, they tell us, we are starting
05:31to test these materials while waiting for the certification to allow us to use them
05:36also to our products. However, it is one of our main partners so certainly
05:41We are happy to be here today, to be able to test these materials.
