00:00I absolutely had to ask you about this like Nightmare revelation at the end of the movie
00:07because it's just struck me so much and I feel like it's going to really stick with me.
00:10Can you talk about arriving to that and that dynamic between Sandman and Nightmare?
00:15Because I think it's just brilliant.
00:16Oh, thanks.
00:17I mean, that was part of the very original conceit of the film.
00:23I wanted to flip the charge on dreams and nightmares
00:30because I think, especially in Western culture, dreams are sort of idolized, you know,
00:39and it's like pursue your dreams at all costs.
00:43You got to make them come true.
00:44And I think that dreams are great,
00:47but sometimes if you pursue them too fervently and you ignore reality
00:56or you ignore everything else, you neglect everything else,
00:59you can get lost in a dream, you know, and it actually can become a nightmare.
01:04And oftentimes I've found in life that sometimes when I'm experiencing a setback
01:10or something, you know, where it doesn't go my way and it feels like it's a nightmare,
01:14I look back and I realize, oh, that moment was so pivotal in the formation of who I am
01:22and my character, and I learned so much from that moment.
01:25Or it set me off in a direction that at the time didn't seem right to me,
01:29but looking back was exactly the right path that I needed to take.
01:33And so I think sometimes what we think is our nightmares in life can actually be dreams
01:39and they can be the blessings to us.
01:43And so I really was interested in that dynamic and flipping the charge on those two things.
01:48So, yeah, I'm so glad it resonated with you.
01:52That was one of the goals of making this movie,
01:55was trying to change the charge on those two ideas.
