00:00Old Vijay Salgaonkar, the protagonist of the Drisham series, actually be smarter than L from Death Note.
00:05Now, I know a lot of you guys must be thinking that I'm crazy for even considering that Vijay Salgaonkar
00:10is anywhere close to L's level of intelligence.
00:12And I don't blame you guys for thinking back.
00:14Because after watching Drisham 3, I came to realize that Vijay Salgaonkar's character is written in a way where he
00:20is and always will be underestimated.
00:23Vijay's character is a lot smarter than you think.
00:25He might actually be at the same intelligence level as Light Yagami.
00:29Yes, I said it.
00:30And no, I'm not high on anything and I'm not on any medication that I'm supposed to be taking.
00:34Much because once you look at everything Vijay has done throughout these movies, the comparison starts making a lot more
00:40sense.
00:40And by the end of this video, you guys might believe that too.
00:43But before we start, I want to make one thing clear.
00:45I'll be talking about Vijay Salgaonkar from the Hindi version of Drisham, not George Kuti from the Malayalam version.
00:51Mainly because the story of Drisham 3 is completely different in both versions.
00:55And the Hindi version gives us a much smarter Vijay Salgaonkar.
00:58Yeah, because in the Malayalam version, George Kuti eventually starts cracking under the pressure, he becomes increasingly paranoid, even goes
01:05as far as injuring his own daughter and eventually gives up and agrees to confess.
01:09Yeah, that could never be my goat Vijay though.
01:12I mean, he does confess too, but that was part of the plan.
01:14Now, before we start comparing Vijay to L, I think we need to understand why Vijay is so heavily underestimated
01:20in the first place.
01:20And the answer is actually pretty simple.
01:22Even after three movies of watching him plan, plot and outsmart the police, we haven't really seen how smart Vijay
01:28actually is.
01:29Simply because he never faced an opponent smart enough to actually push him to his limits.
01:33To understand this, let's look at the scene from Death Note, where L and Light are playing a game of
01:38tennis.
01:39On the surface, it's literally just two guys playing tennis.
01:42But that scene tells us a lot about both of them.
01:44Because Light and L aren't just competing against each other physically, they are constantly trying to figure each other out.
01:50They are intellectual rivals.
01:52And more importantly, they bring out the absolute best in each other.
01:55Every time one of them does something clever, the other has to adapt.
01:58Every time one of them raises the level, the other has to raise it even further.
02:02They are basically forcing each other to use their brains to their absolute limit.
02:06And that's something we have never really seen with Vijay.
02:09Because throughout the Drishyam movies, Vijay has never really had an opponent who's operating at his level.
02:14Think about the first movie.
02:15Sam's mother is extremely determined to find out who killed her son.
02:19But she's also emotionally involved in the case.
02:21And when your emotions are involved that heavily, it's much harder to think rationally.
02:26She has the motivation to find Vijay, but she doesn't have the mindset to actually outsmart him.
02:31So she just straight up beats the shit out of the family to get a confession illegally.
02:35And then you have these two motherfuckers.
02:37Both of them are presented as extremely intelligent, genius level police officers who could solve this case easily, especially this
02:44guy.
02:44But all he does is collect evidence illegally and again, beat the shit out of the family to get a
02:49confession.
02:50And then there is the SP crime branch.
02:52All this guy does in the movie is basic police work, light a cigarette in every scene, and make illegally
02:58acquired evidence look legal.
03:00Which is also illegal.
03:01And I don't even want to talk about Guy Tonde.
03:04This guy is not a fake demon.
03:06He might genuinely consider beating the Salgaonkar family his best life experience.
03:10And you are telling me that even after facing all this police brutality and literally having illegally acquired evidence made
03:17admissible in court, Vijay still won.
03:19And you guys still don't think that he's smart.
03:21I mean, everything L did to catch light was legal.
03:24It was basically a chess game where both players could only make legal moves.
03:28Very smart moves, but still legal moves.
03:31The game Vijay was playing with the police wasn't chess.
03:33It wasn't even a game.
03:34It was literally, tell us where the body is or we just straight up kill our whole family.
03:38Yeah, the family which is the most important thing for you, we're gonna blow their shits move off.
03:43And somehow, he still won.
03:45Yeah, I need to put some respect on his name.
03:47And I'm not saying that if light was in Vijay's situation, he would have lost.
03:50Light would have gotten out of that situation pretty easily too.
03:53And that's exactly my point.
03:55I'm not saying Vijay is smarter than light.
03:56I'm saying that Vijay and light might actually be on the same level of intelligence.
04:00And that can actually be proved by looking at how they handled a similar situation that the police put them
04:06in.
04:06Because if you remember, L placed bugs inside Light's house to monitor him.
04:10Light immediately suspected that his room was being watched.
04:13He figured out what the cameras could see and what the investigators were looking for.
04:17And then made sure they wouldn't find anything suspicious.
04:19Basically, Light didn't just realize he was being watched.
04:22He realized he could use the fact that he was being watched to his advantage.
04:26Similarly, in Drisham 3, it's revealed that Vijay knew all along about the illegally placed bugs inside his entire house
04:32in Drisham 2.
04:33And just like Light, he figured out what the police were trying to do and used that surveillance to outsmart
04:39them.
04:39I think both of these characters have a lot more in common than we realize.
04:42Their biggest weapon isn't just their intelligence, it's the image they have built around themselves.
04:47Light is just this brilliant, well-managed student.
04:49He's popular, respected, comes from a good family.
04:52And on the surface, he looks like the last person who would ever commit a crime.
04:56And Vijay has built a very similar image.
04:58He's just an ordinary, honest man trying to make a living and take care of his family.
05:02Neither of them looks like a criminal.
05:04That's what makes them so difficult to suspect.
05:06Early on in both of their stories, even people involved in the investigations struggle to believe that they could actually
05:12be guilty.
05:13And that's the perfect camouflage.
05:15Light hides Kira behind the image of an innocent student.
05:18Vijay hides himself behind the image of an ordinary, respectable man.
05:21And that's one of the most dangerous things about both of them.
05:24They don't just hide the truth.
05:26They make people question whether there was ever a reason to suspect them in the first place.
05:30There's one more thing that makes Light and Vijay so similar.
05:33It's their commitment.
05:34We all know how committed and dedicated Light was to defeating L.
05:37But we can't ignore Vijay's commitment either.
05:40I mean, even after knowing that the police were monitoring his house, Vijay still got freaky with his wife.
05:45Just to make sure the police wouldn't get suspicious.
05:48Yeah, the police never had a chance.
05:49But what if the person hunting Vijay was actually a smart individual?
05:53And that brings us to the real question.
05:55Can L solve the Drisham case?
05:58Uh, yeah, of course he can.
06:00He could probably solve that case in his sleep.
06:03I mean, let's be honest, guys.
06:05We are talking about a man who prevented World War 3 when he was only 8 years old.
06:09The three greatest detectives in the entire Death Note universe?
06:12Yeah, they are all him.
06:13And let's not even talk about his pornographic memory.
06:16If you gave L the Drisham case, he would have a plan figured out immediately after reading the file.
06:21There's a 99.9% chance that L solves the Drisham case in under 5 minutes.
06:26But if my theory about Vijay being as smart as light is true, then things might get interesting.
06:31Because L might solve the Drisham case in 5 minutes.
06:33But what happens when the man he's trying to catch is operating at light Yagami's level?
06:38And we all know how it went last time.
06:40And Vijay already knows that the truth never stays hidden forever.
06:43And that's exactly why he stays prepared.
06:45So when the day finally comes, he won't be caught off guard.
06:51Let me know what you guys think about this in the comment section.
06:53And by the way guys, this video contains major spoilers for the movie.
06:56So if you haven't watched Drisham or even Death Note yet, watch this video at your own risk.
07:02Yeah, I know it's my duty to give you all spoiler warning.
