00:00President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will summon Chinese Ambassador Jing Chuan over a threat the envoy had made on the use
00:07of force.
00:07In an interview on Thursday, October 15, Jing denied China was a troublemaker in the region and blamed Philippine officials
00:14for causing tensions between the two Asian countries.
00:17Jing told Filipino reporters,
00:19We should feel fortunate enough that you have a neighbor like China in this region. You know, we, if we
00:27want to use force, we may easily win. But no, we will not choose force. And we love peace.
00:36In response, Marcos says,
00:38I think that deserves a discussion between Ambassador and myself.
00:43A summon is among the highest means of communication a government can use to express concern, disapproval, or anger to
00:50an ambassador's home office.
00:52Should the summon push through, it would be the second time for Marcos to summon Jing to the palace in
00:57just over 10 months of being posted in Manila.
01:00The last time was in July, after a Filipino soldier was injured in a violent confrontation with China postguard personnel
01:06in a Union Shoal in the West Philippine Sea.
01:09The Department of Foreign Affairs also says it was regrettable Jing had a poor choice of words that would seem
01:15to convey a thinly veiled threat of the use of force.
