03:54muchísimo gusto en esta entrevista con el doctor Graham he's in charge just he's in charge of youtube
04:00health worldwide he's in charge of making youtube a better and safe for place i think in in a lot
04:08of things thank you thank you doctor for this interview and uh now we have been talking about
04:14youtube for a lot of things i think and then here in mexico there is a strong push for the
04:19government
04:19and the incumbent administration to strictly regulate social media and the access for the minors to social
04:26media for platforms like youtube what i think that restricted the access is not the answer
04:33um in default the default algorithm in in youtube makes sometimes uh that the minor streets like
04:41you know video and after another video what do you think about that this kind of restrictions
04:48and uh maybe how the parents has to be involved in a digital educations for yeah yeah that's great
04:54question it we know why parents are concerned so youtube is primarily a video sharing platform not
04:59so much social media but because of that the video on youtube opens up experiences to people around
05:06mexico in a unique way you know we know that over a 90 percent of young people learn something new
05:14on youtube and it's a part of their journey their learning journey their academic journey so youtube is
05:18very much a part of the the learning experience here in mexico particularly for young people so we want
05:26to make sure that we keep that alive that we keep that access alive that we allow folks to continue
05:32to
05:32grow and just explore the world so it's important for that so we think through this in a different lens
05:38we like the idea of have helping people to navigate in the digital world not from the digital world
05:45so building all the right safeguards all the right safety tools for young people to experience um youtube
05:51and get all of that educational and learning benefit managing the screen time now it's a real issue
05:58in the santi janice home matthias and dante are my sons believe me in in the past it was like
06:04come on
06:04let the tv come to dinner now is please let your ipad let your tablet let whatever you are doing
06:11on the digital era and come talk to me uh how different does the youtube shorts algorithm impact
06:19a developing mind because sometimes they say hey video after video the endless scrolling from your
06:30professional opinion as a doctor how this can affect a minor's mind and how youtube is changing maybe
06:39a way to help that this doesn't happen yeah so you know we we are primarily giving parents the ability
06:46to
06:47decide how they want their kids to view short-form video they can say they want their kids to view
06:52short-form video for 15 minutes 30 minutes or not at all
06:55so parents can shut off short-form video on youtube if they want which will be the recommendation for parents
07:02like me
07:02that say i don't know what to do with my son that can't let this digital gadget and stop seeing
07:10videos
07:10because i feel there are great videos but there are videos that i don't like that my son's yeah
07:15yeah is seen yeah so so we say a couple of things to parents one is um um you know
07:21open to have
07:22conversations with your kids about what they're feeling and watch it with them co-viewing is an important
07:26part of that experience is help our kids develop critical viewing critical thinking skills to watch the video
07:32together and talk to them about it i just hear something in the google blog that i love it and
07:37you mentioned the importance of teaching kids to find a cognitive closing point yes a moment where
07:42they feel satisfied they can put the screen down yeah uh this really can happen because you know i think
07:50that sometimes they can't put the screen down well you know the part of it is helping them transition
07:55so you know telling your kid you have a minute left five minutes left sticking to it
07:59but then you know allowing them to maybe watch the end of that video and then stop it and then
08:04you
08:04know how do we transition them you know transition them from um you know when they're they're watching
08:09something and then you're gonna say well it's gonna come to an end now and then transition them to
08:13something more active in terms of the experience so you want to help your kids get that landing
08:18experience where they can close off but then uh direct that energy into something else it's really important
08:24for us to work with our kids and i have kids too um and so i know it's a challenge
08:29um but helping them
08:30transition because again the goal here is balance right the restriction that has been all over the
08:36world of our social media and of course lots of like youtube uh some experts say hey this is not
08:42good
08:42because in this world in this moment being social media being part of social media or seeing either
08:49on youtube is part of the social interactions of this generation so do you think that maybe the
08:54restriction is not the answer well you know because we really believe in this idea of helping kids
09:00um navigating like i said in the digital world not from it so the concept of you know absolute bands
09:06total bands may not be as impactful as much as it is working to make sure that we have safer
09:12guard
09:12wheels in place that we build the tools so they can have a safer digital experience so that we um
09:17really
09:17intentional in how we design the experience that they have online so that they're more safer and so
09:22you know the concept of bands um are you know is not something that is showing to be working
09:28um but the real goal is you know working together with governments and civil society on you know
09:34building that a safer experience um by building the design um and really focusing on the guardrails
09:40and well-being of our young people thank you very much zach thank you
09:46well and in these days in the next days in the city of mexico the new infocom mexico is the
09:54event
09:54professional of integration audiovisual most important in latinoamerica and the professionals
09:59of audio and video encuentran incredible things incredible well cualquiera that
