00:06I'm Alexandre Malval, director of design of Renault's design.
00:13The first image that comes to mind when we talk about the original space,
00:18is that of one of my uncles who came when I was 14 years old,
00:23on my vacation.
00:24And there I saw the space for the first time.
00:26I discovered it was blue metal, with the interior beige,
00:30and there he showed us the modularity of the interior,
00:33all the magic of this vehicle.
00:34I felt like it was like an OVNI,
00:37in the middle of the pool,
00:38and it was very impressive as an infant.
00:41And I keep an incredible memory.
00:47We need to re-plonger in the space at the time.
00:50It was a new concept,
00:51which has totally revolutionized the automotive landscape,
00:53and which is becoming iconic,
00:55because it responded perfectly to the expectations of the customers.
00:58It offered a maximum space at the board,
01:00making of the habitacle a real living salon,
01:03which was generous, welcoming,
01:05but also warm and functional.
01:07At that time,
01:08the teams created an unique architecture,
01:11which we called as monocore,
01:13with a continuity between the door and the door.
01:15From the original space,
01:17we took the architecture and some of its details,
01:19but eSpaceConcept
01:21we project in the future without any nostalgia,
01:24with a very contemporary interpretation of the object.
01:30We could say that eSpaceConcept
01:32is, in a way,
01:33the comfort,
01:34allied to the modularity,
01:36the all on an electric platform,
01:37where the dimensions,
01:38which are very reasonable,
01:40allow it to guarantee its efficiency.
01:45We tried to bring homage to the origin space,
01:48as well as the intelligence of the concept
01:50that continues to incarnate the values of the brand.
01:52We developed a stylistic writing
01:54which is reasonably modern,
01:56which is pure,
01:57visible at first glance.
01:58The cabin eSpaceConcept
02:00was thought of as an architecture of the ver
02:02which is open on the exterior
02:03and totally filled with light.
02:05The caisse line is voluntarily base
02:07for this reason
02:08and the carrossery appears
02:09like in lévitation
02:10to express the lightness and modernity.
02:13I can also add
02:14the major place
02:15accorded to the interior atmosphere,
02:16the colours and materials,
02:17for example,
02:18very hot and conviviales,
02:19which reflect the desire
02:20of Renault to inscribe
02:21the eSpaceConcept
02:22in the values
02:23more close to the interior architecture
02:25than the automobile.
02:30What was imaginable
02:31in the 1980s
02:32was the use of the electric technology
02:34to drive vehicles
02:35which is now a reality.
02:37And outre l'absence
02:39of CO2,
02:40it offers new possibilities
02:41in terms of space
02:42and management
02:43to board
02:43thanks to the capacity
02:44of the platform.
02:45And this is a real plus
02:46for families.
02:50If there is a subtle detail
02:52that the public
02:52may not notice
02:53at first glance
02:54on eSpaceConcept,
02:56it is the lightness
02:56between the habitacle
02:58and the cellule
02:59of the ver
03:00and the carrossery
03:02which provides
03:03a form of light
03:04and which will appear
03:05light.
03:10One of the sources
03:11of inspiration
03:11that was omnipresent
03:13in the genesis of the project
03:15it was the architecture,
03:17the interior architecture
03:18but also a particular house,
03:21that of Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
03:23We talk about the 1950s.
03:24This house is called the Farnsworth House Plano, which is an extraordinary architecture,
03:29which is both functional and fully open to its environment.
03:33In a way, it corresponds to the foundation principles
03:36that we wanted to develop eSpace Concepts.
03:39In the interior, the pierre Paulin is always an inspiration for the designer,
03:43because each of these creations remains iconic.
