00:00Imagine living on the steppe where temperatures can drop to minus 40 degrees Celsius, with no laws, and every day
00:07filled with nothing but tribal warfare.
00:10This was Mongolia in the 12th century.
00:13Not a country, but a never-ending battlefield for disorganized nomadic tribes.
00:18Back then, there was no such thing as the Mongolian nation.
00:22There were only tribal egos.
00:25The Tatters were at war with the Merkits.
00:27The Karaites were at war with each other.
00:30Amidst this chaos, a boy named Temujin was born.
00:34His life was tragic.
00:36His father was poisoned.
00:38His family was exiled by his own tribe and starved.
00:42And his wife was even kidnapped.
00:44This trauma transformed Temujin into a cold, yet incredibly intelligent figure.
00:50Temujin realized that if they were to survive, these tribes had to unite.
00:55But he took extreme measures.
00:58He abolished the aristocracy, or caste system based on royal blood.
01:03In Temujin's army, you were promoted based on achievement and loyalty, not on your birthplace.
01:09This policy caused the commoners and soldiers from enemy tribes to turn their allegiance to him.
01:15The year 1206 marked a crucial historical turning point.
01:19At a grand gathering called the Kurultai, all the tribes of the steppe agreed to unite.
01:25It was here that Temujin was officially awarded the title Genghis Khan, meaning ruler of the universe from that day
01:33on.
01:34The word Mangle was no longer just the name of a small tribe, but the identity of a new, solid
01:40and fearsome nation.
01:42Once unified, this new nation created the largest land empire in human history.
01:49Not only was Genghis Khan a master of war, but he also implemented written law, YASA,
01:56created the world's first express mail system, and secured the Silk Road, allowing global trade to revive.
02:03So, Mongolia wasn't born of peace, but of blood, trauma, and a unity forced by circumstances.
02:12Do you think Genghis Khan was a hero or a monster?
