The film’s plot unfolds along two parallel storylines. The protagonist, Ma Xianyong (played by Chen Jianbin)—a former auxiliary police officer—saw his family shattered after a drunk-driving accident caused his wife's death and left his younger sister, Ma Jiaqi (Ren Suxi), with high-level paraplegia. This tragedy not only reduced Ma Xianyong to a down-and-out security guard but also created a deep rift between him and his daughter, Ma Yiyi (Deng Enxi). Hoping to regain his position as an auxiliary officer, Ma Xianyong sets out to help the police recover a lost gun, becoming entangled with various factions in the process. Meanwhile, two bungling thieves—Hu Guangsheng (Zhang Yu), alias "Glasses," and Li Haigen (Pan Binlong), alias "Big Head"—accidentally stumble into Ma Jiaqi’s home to hide after robbing a shop of mobile phone dummies. Hu is desperate to pull off a "big job" to prove his worth, while Li simply wants to make enough money to marry the woman he loves; Ma Jiaqi, physically disabled and possessing a razor-sharp tongue, has lost all hope for life and is intent on suicide. The three move from an initial state of hostility to a place of mutual understanding.
Real estate developer Gao Ming (played by Wang Yanhui) fled after incurring massive debts; his creditor, Liu Wu (played by Deng Gang), staged a mock "memorial service" in the city to humiliate him. Despite his downfall, Gao Ming returned to face the situation for the sake of his dignity. His son, Gao Xiang (played by Ning Huanyu), clashed with Liu Wu’s henchmen while trying to defend his father, causing chaos during a school emergency drill. Meanwhile, Ma Xianyong discovered that both Hu Guangsheng and Li Haigen were linked to the missing gun and struggled to piece together the various clues. Ultimately, all the parties converged in a chaotic confrontation. Ma Xianyong was shot while fighting the criminals to protect others; Hu Guangsheng was taken into custody by the police after realizing that his so-called "big job" was nothing more than a farce; Li Haigen re-evaluated his life after the ordeal; Gao Ming and his son came to understand each other amidst a life-or-death crisis; and Ma Jiaqi also gained a new perspective on life through these turbulent events.
