French high school students continued blockading streets near their campuses in Paris on Tuesday (Oct 13), pressing the government to respond with concrete measures to their demands for better conditions.

The protests, now in their fourth week, have snowballed into a broader movement, with some university students joining in to express their anger over what they describe as a dysfunctional system, made worse by spending cuts driven by France's budget crunch.

00:08The city is in the middle of the street.
00:30There is an angle in the front row.
00:36Wow, there is a camera over there.
00:43I am a little bit closer, but I'm a little bit closer.
00:49It's a big angle.
00:49I'm so sorry.
00:51I'm so sorry.
00:52I'm so sorry.
00:53I'm so sorry.
00:53But I can't see you in the back row.
00:59I'm so sorry.
01:06I'm here because this is one of the places where it started.
01:10They've been going for almost three weeks now, students occupying the school and teachers
01:15striking in solidarity with them, which is an incredible, beautiful solidarity to see.
01:22And again, the French students are now showing the world how we should be standing up and
01:29how we should be revolting against an extremely violent system.
01:33And they're leading by example.
01:34People are stepping up and revolting and rebelling against the system.
01:37We know it's not working in our favor, which we can also see from the extremely violent
01:43response from the establishment where politicians are responding in a way that just shows that
01:49they're completely out of touch with reality and what people are actually living and going
01:53through.
01:53And when police are protecting this extremely violent status quo, at the expense of these
02:01children going out demanding the bare minimum, just shows everything who they are really protecting.
