Tom and Jerry — In the classic short “Jerry and Jumbo” (1953), Tom frantically stacks trunks inside a large wooden chest and locks it shut in a desperate attempt to trap a baby elephant disguised as a giant mouse.
This short was directed by the legendary duo William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, with music composed by Scott Bradley, who meticulously synchronized every footstep and door slam to the orchestral score. Animator Irven Spence was famous among the team for acting out Tom’s wild expressions and frantic movements in front of a mirror at his desk before drawing them.
