00:00The thing I mostly want to talk about is if you pay 20 bucks more, $149, you get a couple
00:04of upgrades.
00:05This includes a wireless charging case, sure, okay, and also for the first time on AirPods, or at least basic
00:11AirPods, volume controls.
00:13So you can now finally swipe on the AirPods to make the volume louder or quieter.
00:17And I'm going to say, I've said this before we came on live, that's stupid.
00:22That should not be a fifth generation edition.
00:24I know that they're sort of the lowest range of AirPods, but you know, $149 or even $179 last year
00:30and so on.
00:31That's an expensive pair of earbuds.
00:33And swiping to control the audio is something you can do on much, much cheaper standard earbuds.
00:41And it should not be a $20 edition, let alone only coming in five generations in.
00:46I cannot understand how you people have let Apple get away with this.
00:49I mean, I know what Hamish is saying in the sense that if other products of the same price have
00:53been offering that feature for a long time, that's the kind of the going rate it should have it.
00:57Like in the same way that iPhones used to have 60 hertz refresh rate, you know, that was ridiculous, but
01:01people just kind of got on with it.
01:03I don't know.
01:03I still use my six-year-old AirPods Pro and I never feel like I need to change the volume
01:08using the stems.
01:09Likewise, I always just use the volume rocker on my iPhone, even if it's in my pocket.
01:14Even though my AirPods Pro 3 have the swiping functionality, I never really use it.
01:19So many other cheaper competitors have had this for so long and Apple's only just coming around to it now
01:24and they're advertising it like it's a big deal.
01:26And my thing as well is that it's not included in the base model.
01:29You have to pay extra for it.
01:32It's just such a basic tool that's not even something I consider like an upgrade.
01:35And the fact that it's being advertised as not only an addition to the AirPods 5, but an addition to
01:41the slightly more premium AirPods 5 just seems like...
01:44It's kind of the same with wireless charging as well.
01:46Like I don't know that I pay £20 or dollars more for wireless charging.
01:51I think what you're really paying for is the stem controls.
01:53My personal feeling is that in some ways this kind of makes the AirPods Pro 3 slightly redundant because the
02:01only other standout features where you get a better fit because of the ear tips, you get better battery slightly.
02:07I'm sure the ANC and transparency is far better in the Pro 3 than it is in the AirPods 5.
02:14But it's like twice the price.
02:16And the only other real selling point is the heart rate monitoring.
02:19And let's be honest, I don't think anyone's using that.
02:21No one's measuring their heart rate with their AirPods really.
02:23And the hearing health stuff, which is cool.
02:25And I used it one time when I got my AirPods Pro 2 and then didn't really think about it
02:30again.
02:31And if the only selling point for the Pro 4, which we might see next year, is this leaked camera
02:36setup in your earbuds, I'm not convinced the Pro is going to be as much of a big seller as
02:43it might have been in years previous.
