00:01The secondary school protests on Tuesday across France drew 256,000 people nationwide according to the Ministry of the Interior.
00:11Secondary school and student organizations put the figure at 450,000. Paris saw the largest procession of demonstrators.
00:20I also want to support the students because there is a huge problem in education. There are a lot of
00:26professors. The schools are insalubres. The budgets for education are really not there.
00:32For example, I know that 86% of the school buildings need an energy renovation. 7% are climated. The
00:41students are 35 in class.
00:42The demonstrators also gathered to condemn the violent excesses and police brutality that accompanied the protests.
00:50We condemn police violence because they are very present. There have been several hundred interpellations. There have been a lot
00:59of injuries.
01:00The police violence is too present. The response of the government is not quite present. There are more CRS than
01:07teachers. That's the impression we have.
01:10Parents, trade unions and teachers were there not only to supervise the younger pupils, but also to voice their demands.
01:17We have a part of the political class who thinks that what young people think, their revendications are a bit
01:23cruel.
01:24Or they can still have a few years before they announce them. And we think that they have the right
01:30to be heard.
01:30Well, it's fair to say that what started out as a protest in the suburbs of Paris has grown into
01:35something far greater.
01:37Today, we saw trade unions march alongside students in the streets of Paris.
01:42The protests were for the most part peaceful. However, later in the day, we did see the first signs of
01:49clashes with the police and violence emerge.
01:52Although at present, the finer details around what really occurred remain to be defined.
