Yemen government forces advance on Bab el-Mandeb in offensive against Houthis

Operation Yemen Dawn, backed by 100 Saudi coalition aircraft, retook the town of Dhubab just north of the strait, as the Houthis claimed they struck Riyadh's international airport, an oil refinery and military bases across Saudi Arabia, and Pakistan and Turkey agreed to deploy troops to the kingdom.

00:00Government forces in Yemen backed by a Saudi-led coalition have launched a
00:05major offensive to retake areas around the Bab el-Mandeb Strait from the Houthis.
00:13Officials say they have already captured the key town of Dubaab just north of the
00:17strait and that 100 fighter jets are supporting the operation. The strait is a
00:23vital shipping route linking the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden with around 12% of
00:28global trade passing through it. But the Houthis have hit back. They claim
00:34missile and drone attacks on Riyadh's international airport and oil refinery and
00:39military bases across southern Saudi Arabia who are awaiting reinforcements.
00:44Pakistan and Turkey have agreed to deploy troops to the kingdom though no numbers
00:48or timeline have been given. The fighting has ended a four-year ceasefire. The World
00:56is known that 959 people have been killed so far and that about 174,000 have fled
01:02their home. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres says he is deeply concerned by the
01:09escalation.
