00:06we have some breaking news tonight one of the world's most influential rock musicians is gone
00:11rush drummer Neil Peart has died after Neil passed away we never really were able to pay
00:24tribute to him and that weighed on me quite a lot yeah look who's here Neil loved his drum brothers
00:32so bringing them together for a jam and to talk about Neil feels like the right way to honor his
00:38legacy I can't play without looking at you and I can't look at you without smiling when I started
00:45to get around 11 or 12 years old I was banging around the house and smashing up pots and pans
00:49and
00:49my parents got the idea that I like to hit things with sticks I remember thinking there's no way
00:55this guy's cool enough to be our band but when he started playing triplets it changed everything he
00:59got really cool really fast so fast we played well together and we laughed well together that's the
01:03kind of thing that might last 34 years I asked him one time how do you get the air drummers
01:13they're
01:13all doing it with him I want that the drum parts are so iconic and straight-faced he was a
01:20stone-cold
01:21assassin I think it matters to try to play my best all the time to keep it fresh and changing
01:30it's
01:30kind of my responsibility I see it as a drummer Neil used to describe drumming as running a marathon
01:35while doing math equation five seven now three okay here seven again a five again okay I think it's
01:42brilliant the drum fills are challenging to remember but this is for Neil I'm gonna play
01:47him just the way the professor did that didn't suck that is hard work I thought I was fit yeah
01:55I can
01:55hear him now not so easy is it that's for sure I'm glad you're here I appreciate you coming to
02:01do
02:02this I hope it did tribute to our buddy oh I'm sure it did
02:12you
