00:00Wooo!
00:02Hi, I'm Andre Meadows and welcome to Crash Course Games.
00:05Over the next 20 weeks, we're going to have some fun.
00:08I mean, Crash Course is always fun, but this time we're going to have fun talking about games.
00:12Now, of course, we're going to talk about video games, your Atari's, your Nintendo's, your Sega Genesis's, your Playstations, your
00:17Xbox's,
00:18but not just video games.
00:19Also handheld games, mobile games, tabletop games, board games, card games, sports games, virtual reality games,
00:27even games going as far back as ancient Egypt and China, games you might not have ever heard of before,
00:32but mechanics in those games, they're still prevalent in games today.
00:35That's a lot of games.
00:36But before we get into all these games, allow me to introduce myself.
00:39My name is Andre.
00:40Ever since I was a little kid, I was into computer and video games.
00:44I used to have a Nintendo Entertainment System, of course.
00:46Before that, I had the Atari 2600, and before that, I had a Texas Instrument TI-994A.
00:52Nerd cred.
00:53And today I have my own YouTube channel, Black Nerd Comedy, where I talk about all kinds of retro nostalgia,
00:58pop and geek culture goodness, like TV shows, movies, cartoons, and of course, video games.
01:05Now, video games might be a leisure activity, but unlike what your parents told you when you were a kid,
01:09or today as a kid, or adult,
01:11they are not a waste of time.
01:13You know, video games that we play, they have a lot to tell us about the experiences of being human.
01:18As a matter of fact, humans have been playing games pretty much as long as there have been humans.
01:22And I can tell you, the stakes have changed a little since ancient times.
01:26I mean, I hate coming in last and Mario Kart as much as the next guy, but in ancient Egypt,
01:30if you were bad at games,
01:31you could end up in ancient Egyptian hell, which is kind of like Rainbow Road.
01:36So in this series, we're going to play some games, we're going to talk some history, maybe some science,
01:40even look into gaming's future.
01:41And above all, we're going to have some fun learning about this universal human behavior of people playing games.
01:47And we'll be right back to the next one.
01:49I'll see you next time.
01:50I'm sorry, we're going to play it.
01:53And we'll be right back to the next episode.
01:56Bye.
