00:26The Kremlin is sending
00:28another strong message of support to Iran.
00:31Russian President Vladimir Putin has praised what he described as the courage, heroism
00:37and resilience of the Iranian people, while highlighting what he called Iran's deep
00:42bench of senior figures across the government, military and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
00:49Speaking at the Valdai International Discussion Club in Moscow, Putin said the world was closely
00:56watching the events in Iran and admiring the country's resilience.
01:00He also pointed to Iranian officials and military figures whom he described as willing to sacrifice
01:06themselves for their people.
01:09Putin's remarks come amid continued tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel,
01:15and as Moscow maintains close strategic ties with Tehran.
01:19But Putin went further, addressing the killing of Ali Lariani, Iran's former secretary of
01:26the Supreme National Security Council.
01:29Putin called the killing a tremendous mistake, saying he had known him personally and regarded
01:35him as someone willing to seek compromises in the interests of the Iranian people.
01:41According to Putin, Lariani could have played a role in finding diplomatic solutions and bringing
01:47peace to the Persian lulf.
01:49The Russian leader also brought Iran's nuclear program back into focus.
01:54Putin said Moscow's long-standing proposal to take Iran's enriched uranium out of the country
02:00remains on the table.
02:02He recalled that Russia had previously facilitated a transfer of Iranian nuclear material in 2015,
02:09and said Moscow was still prepared to play a role if a future agreement requires the material
02:14to be moved.
02:16And then came another major point, the Strait of Hormuz.
02:20Putin said he hopes the strategic waterway will reopen and that sanctions against Iran will
02:26be lifted.
02:27He argued that once those conditions are met, there would be no reason for restrictions on
02:32shipping through the Strait of Hormuz or the Bab el-Mandeb.
02:36He argued that Moscow supports that outcome.
02:39The comments underline Russia's continued diplomatic backing for Tehran at a moment when Iran's military
02:47leadership, nuclear program, and control over strategic waterways remain central to the wider
02:53confrontation.
02:55Putin has also repeatedly praised what he describes as Iran's resilience in meetings with Iranian
03:01officials.
03:02For Moscow, the message is clear.
03:04Russia continues to present itself as a partner for Tehran, while keeping diplomacy, nuclear
03:11negotiations, and the reopening of key shipping routes on the table.
