00:00Did you know African buffalos actually vote?
00:04When a herd of African buffalos needs to decide where to go next,
00:08they don't just follow the strongest male.
00:10They hold an election, and only the adult females get to vote.
00:15Here's how it works.
00:17One by one, the females stand up, stare in the direction they want to travel,
00:22and then sit back down.
00:23They're casting their vote.
00:25The herd watches and counts.
00:28Whichever direction gets the most stares wins.
00:31That's where the entire herd goes.
00:34But what if the vote is split?
00:36The herd will actually split up temporarily.
00:39One group goes one way, the other goes the other way,
00:42before coming back together later.
00:45No fighting, no dominance, just pure democracy.
00:50For buffalos, every female's vote counts equally,
00:53no matter her social status.
00:55Nature invented voting long before we did.
00:58good.
00:59Good.
