00:03This is a really exciting moment for me.
00:06The Jane Goodall Institute's Chimpunga Chimpanzee Rehabilitation Center
00:10in the Republic of Congo has for years been caring for infants
00:15whose mothers were killed, mostly for the illegal bushmeat trade.
00:20Many of them are now fully grown.
00:23Recently, we acquired three large forested islands
00:27on the beautiful Kweilu River,
00:29where we can release many of the chimpanzees
00:31from our overcrowded center.
00:35In here is Wunda, and she nearly died,
00:40but thanks to Rebecca, she came back from the dead.
00:43And here she is, about to come out into this paradise.
00:48She's the 15th chimpanzee to get her freedom here,
00:52and we hope ultimately to have about 60 on the island.
00:58Today is the first time I've met Wunda.
01:01I talked to her on the boat, trying to reassure her.
01:06She must have wondered what was happening.
01:09None of us could predict exactly what she would do
01:12once the cage door opened.
01:38It was a very, very touching moment.
01:41One of the most amazing things that's ever happened to me.
01:46The warmth of her embrace is something I shall never forget.
01:53For Wunda and all the other chimpanzees we're working to bring here,
01:58Chinzula Island will provide a wonderful forest home,
02:02where they will be cared for and safe.
02:05We'll see you next time.
