00:00UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham said there were, quote,
00:04strong indications that Iran was involved in recent suspicious activity near a UK airbase in Fairford.
00:10The incident sparked a major security alert in the country
00:13after it was suspected that the base was being potentially targeted by Iran,
00:17as it is also used by US military forces.

00:26But this remains, though, a complex and very serious police investigation,
00:32so I can't say any more at this stage.
00:35People will know, though, it's consumed quite a considerable amount of my time here in Liverpool this week.
00:40We have been waiting to confirm what we could say,
00:44but we can now confirm our belief that Iran played a part.
00:49I will update people more in due course.
00:53His remarks are the first official indication from UK authorities that Iran may have been behind the incident,
00:59though officials have not explained the nature of the threat.
01:02Five people traveling in three vehicles were arrested on suspicion of terrorism earlier in the week
01:07for allegedly attempting to attack the site.
01:10The latest official announcements confirmed after three days of investigations that the vehicles,
01:15originally suspected of carrying explosives, were in fact not harboring any.
01:19The suspects have since been released on bail and investigations into the incident remain ongoing.
