00:00When you read the script, you know that you're gonna be beaten up, gonna be, like, covered with mud, you're
00:05gonna be plunged in cold water, you're gonna be exhausted at the end of the shoot, and, and, and, it's
00:10a dog that's gonna steal the show.
00:12So why did you say yes? Are you some kind of a masochist?
00:15Yeah, yeah. It was, really, I didn't clock how physically demanding it was gonna be.
00:21I'd always had a mind to do some kind of survival story, loving Jeremiah Johnson and Revenant, you know, and
00:27everything in between.
00:29But it was really the ending of the movie that really just hit me so beautifully, and I remember I
00:34put the script down, and I walked outside, off the kitchen in the back, and just kind of had a
00:40little silent weep.
00:43And it's pretty profound to have that experience. I've read thousands of scripts in my lifetime, and, and I just
00:49thought that, coupled with David, because we've worked together, and had such an incredible experience that it just, it just
00:57felt right.
00:58And I didn't question it from there. It wasn't until we got to New Zealand, and, uh, got, got to
01:04work, dunked in water, wet in the morning, and just wet till the, you know, all day long.
01:10Was he like, get me out of here?
01:13Uh, he didn't say that. I think it was in the eyes a little bit, and definitely helped with the
01:19performance.

01:26Who was the most difficult to direct, Brad or the dog?
01:29Uh, I think it's a tie.

01:34I have the same one for you. Who was the easiest to follow, David or the dog?
01:39David, by far.
01:41Like, we had a, uh, a canine specialist come out and give us, you know, give us a little bit
01:46of training, and we've talked about what they do, even in war scenarios.
01:52They give dog purpose. They give the dog, you know, definitely days of fun, make it a game, but other
01:59things, just purpose.
01:59And it's, it's so true about us. It's humans. We, we need purpose to feel validated, and we tried to
02:06keep that same kind of spirit for Odin, played by Uber, who was a, um, in another lifetime, was a
02:13search and rescue dog before he became an actor.
02:16Am I gonna have, uh, uh, an interview with a real star of the show? I mean, where's the dog?
02:21He's in New Zealand.

02:22Yeah, he's already gotten a little uppity. He wouldn't make the trip.
