Range Rover Electric - A New Era for the Original Luxury SUV - Nigel Blenkinsop, Chief Operations Officer, JLR

Range Rover, the original luxury SUV, has launched its first fully electric model, Range Rover Electric, built at JLR's Solihull manufacturing plant in the UK. The launch is underpinned by a large-scale transformation of the site and wider West Midlands footprint, including new battery and electric drive unit production lines and large-scale reskilling of the workforce for electrification.

That transformation extends across JLR's UK manufacturing base: at Solihull, 9,000 employees have been upskilled for electrification and a further 1,500 trained across the wider West Midlands footprint, while JLR's Electric Propulsion Manufacturing Centre in Wolverhampton now produces battery packs and electric drive units alongside internal combustion engines. Notably, Range Rover Electric is built on the same Solihull production line as its mild-hybrid, plug-in hybrid and combustion counterparts, with each vehicle manufactured to order – underlining JLR’s flexible propulsion strategy. More than two-thirds of Range Rover's supplier spend is directed to UK and European suppliers, reinforcing the brand's economic footprint at home.

Range Rover Electric marks a major milestone for the brand, seamlessly integrating electric propulsion into an architecture engineered for it from the outset. Twin permanent magnet motors deliver near-silent performance with V8 levels of power, while revolutionary traction management – reacting up to 100 times faster than a combustion-engine equivalent – ensures no compromise to Range Rover's signature all-terrain capability, including wading through 900mm of water.
