📰 THE FULL STORY

Pope Leo XIV celebrated an open-air Mass at Place de la Concorde in Paris on Saturday. An estimated 800,000 people gathered for the event, spread over more than two kilometres beyond the Arc de Triomphe.

Before the Mass, the pope rode the popemobile along the Champs-Elysees. The city centre was sealed off, helicopters circled overhead, and snipers were positioned on rooftops. On Friday, an estimated 300,000 people saw the pope en route to Notre Dame Cathedral.

The trip is the first official papal visit to France in 18 years. Over the three-day visit, Leo, 71, met French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife Brigitte Macron at the Elysee, and he addressed a gathering at the Paris headquarters of Unesco.

Presidential hopefuls Marine Le Pen and Edouard Philippe attended the Mass. President Macron was represented by his wife, Brigitte.

⬅️ HOW THE LEFT COVERS IT
The Guardian frames the visit around message and diplomacy, foregrounding the pope's warning that AI threatens humanity and his meetings with Emmanuel and Brigitte Macron, his Unesco address, and his planned European peace speech in Metz. It presents the pope as a moral and political interlocutor engaging European leaders and institutions. It gives less emphasis to the security apparatus and the crowd spectacle that other sides highlight. (The Guardian)

⬛ HOW THE CENTER COVERS IT
France24 and Times of Israel treat the sheer scale as the headline story, foregrounding the estimated 800,000 crowd stretching beyond the Arc de Triomphe, the 300,000 who saw the pope en route to Notre Dame, and the tight security of a sealed-off city centre, circling helicopters and rooftop snipers. They note the political dimension through attendees Marine Le Pen and Edouard Philippe and Macron's absence in favour of his wife, and track the pope's pilgrimage to Lourdes. This logistical and turnout framing skips the pointed message-driven emphasis partisan sides pick out. (France24, Times of Israel)

➡️ HOW THE RIGHT COVERS IT
Breitbart casts the event in explicitly religious and historically charged terms, foregrounding the pope's proclamation to let faith in Christ overflow before 800,000 people, and pointing to the location as the site of French Revolution guillotine beheadings. This framing emphasizes faith and historical memory over the AI warning and diplomatic meetings that other sides stress. (Breitbart)

⚠️ WHAT THEY AREN'T TELLING YOU
Coverage that leads with crowd numbers gives less attention to the heavy security footprint reported at the event: the city centre was sealed off, helicopters circled, and snipers were placed on roof
